reality check needed in bball thread

The SEC is garbage this year. No other way to put it. If we don't finish in the top 4, I doubt we get in. UK, Mizzou, and Florida will all be dancing so these next two are pretty much the most important games of the season so far IMO. The Memphis score is misleading. We should have lost that game by 20 plus but it's done with so time to move on. The next two are very VERY important to getting in the tournament and we need 2 W's.

I agree. Just when I was starting to buy into some of 95's thoughts, he loses me with this one. Why is it so hard to believe we would struggle to make the tourney minus our most consistent player from the year before. Its not like we have a bevy of talent to plug in there in his stead.
I think with golden hurt, need to draw up some plays to run the offense through Josh and Jordy pushing the pace that include a high low feed Hall/Reese to Stokes.
Stokes was coming open against Memphis when McRae and Richardson were penetrating.

I agree. The combo of Richardson, McRae, and Lopez seemed very effective pushing the ball and scoring. Perhaps more importantly, they looked very comfortable doing it. It opened things up in all areas of the court. Many coaches like a transition game because layups are easy shots. We don't have the personnel to play a slow-down, perimeter game.

Ok we can play this game, let's see how Lehigh fares without CJ McCollum who's out for the next 2-3 months.

When did they lose him? How long have they prepared to play without him? Losing a guy in mid season is completely different than the Maymon situation.

So if Lehigh lost him preseason they should have the same results as last year? That's laughable.

Didn't Martin and Tennessee expect Maymon to return within the first month? Not like they prepared all off season knowing there was no Maymon.

Why? I have actually started to understand some of your arguments lately, but don't understand this. Maymon is UT's best low post scorer. It's the ability to have 12 and 10 every night that makes him big. We thought Stokes could but he is inconsistent. Plus, the presence of Maymon inside is huge for Stokes.

Maymon was out well before the season started. He shouldn't be the difference in making the tourney or not. With Maymon, I could have bought into an outside shot at the conference title. But with or without Maymon, considering our roster and schedule, the tourney should be a given either way.

Where did Martin say Maymon would be returning in a specific timeframe? He's pointed to the future all along and been very coy. For all we know they've known this was long term issue.

K.

So like I said, the only person who's expectations they haven't met is yours.

If I'm the only person that expected us to beat Memphis (which was the last of the 3 game OOC stretch), then so be it. If you went in expecting to lose, good for you.

Thought we should healthy, didn't expect it with all the injuries.

Maybe, but not without a healthy Golden.

Before the season everyone pointed to last season's collapse (1-2 in last 3) as a result of injuries. I specifically pointed out that injuries happen and it's the staff's job to manage them. Here we are again. Same story, different year.

At this point I'm questioning the staff including S&C with all the problems this team is having. 3 of our 5 projected starters from the summer are either out or having serious problems before conference play is starting.

Having Golden log long minutes early in the season was a bad omen.

I think your expectations just insanely high man.

Last year you expected top 4 in SEC and NCAA tourney appearance minimum.

This year with Maymon you're talking winning the SEC...

I've seem NOBODY else with the kinds of expectations you have, you basically set expectations so high you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

He said multiple times they didn't expect him to miss significant time.

Quite a few were talking NC run with the one of best front courts in the country.
Need to bump?

The minimum expectation for UT Basketball is making a watered down NCAA field. Lowering my expectations because we have a mid-major coach ain't gonna happen. Mediocre is being a top 5 SEC team, that should be all that is needed to make the tourney.

He posts so much he even forgets what he says. Then when it's brought up you'll get a "that's not what I meant". Like in this thread, he expected a ranking after going 3-0 heading into conference play. Now, it's backtracking to saying losing is OK and this team is meeting his expectations - hooray for Martin!

blendingtnorange is the ultimate in lowering expectations to make sure the coach is lauded for doing great.

Big difference between expecting to finish top 5 in league, and win the league as you said.

I said this team was making a nc run??? I'll wait on you to post that for me.

As for the 3-0, sorry your reading comprehension is at a first grade level.
