Reality is we do have a chance...

haha. and thats why i posted it. people where starting threads and making comments that there is no way we can make the tournament and i wanted the casual fan to relaize that wasnt true.

people are absolutely free to form their own opinion, but when someone logs on and sees a thread that reality is appreciated, and it talks about how theres no chance of this team making it,that is just false information. so i wanted to give people a thread, who like you stated in your case arent sure of specifics, to come and see for themselves what it'll take.

is it probable that all these things happen and we make it? no

but as you said expect the unexpected and let the teams play the games. if the favorites always won there would be absolutely no point in playing the games.

Incredible. The most informative, insightful and accurate OP's I've seen on VN. Thanks and GBO

I admit bleeding, im impressed by your dedication to VN/UT. I haven't seen a single who has posted more quality posts than you have in your short time here. Every single one of your posts is spot on (even if I dont admit it).

Keep it up. You're earning a fantastic reputation.

I'm looking at 013. Premature I guess, but if we can land the talent we're after, I think we'll be seeing some real knock down drag outs between ours and yours.
Bout time some one started getting the Cats ready for those final 4s.
Have to let us get to one now and then though.

Im hopeful this is the product we see:

Golden/Landry
Mcrae/Edwards
King/Edwards
Stokes/Nichols
Mitchell/Yemi

FYP.

Go hard or go home. :)

haha id prefer that lineup

im going off the idea though we lose miller for mitchell this year

that leaves us mcbee, maymon, and hall for 13 class scholly's, bring in landry nichols king...now if we have more schollys to play with i'll definitely include some more haha

Hey bleeding, where did you get your RPI projections for the SEC tourney games? Didn't see that on rpiforecast.

Great thoughts from the OP. the things that worry me are having a RPI in the 50's. Yes 64 teams go to the tournament(4 playin games not included) but there are 31 conference champions that play. So including the playin games that leaves 37 spots. I am afraid that RPI is to low.

Also, 4 out of the past 5 years the NCAA has only allowed 5 SEC teams into the tournament. The one year they didn't they only allowed 3. I say this to say I wouldn't be hopeful for 6 SEC teams...

Though I still hold hope that there is a chance

Projected RPI of 75 at the end of season if we go 5-1. If we match up with Auburn and Miss St then lose to Florida, I don't see our RPI being in the 50s.
Auburn (RPI 132) maybe +5 at a nuetral site.
Miss St (RPI 44) generously +15
+20 no way we get more than that for those two games.
That would get us to 55.
Lose to Florida and that would put us in the 60s.

IMO we have to go 5-1 and three game into the SECt or 6-0 plus 2 games in the SECt. Maybe I'm missing something.

thats about right. winning 5-1 and going 2-1 against teams you said would be calling it close, we'd be bubble but would probably be sweating it.

going 5-1, NOT GETTING A BYE, and winning 3 games and losing in championship is ideal scenario in all honesty.if we go 6-0 we most likely get a bye, and will only be able to win 2 games in sec t before championship. Either one is good enough to get us in, I just feel the 3 sec t wins would be a good impression.

Hell keys just win the next 10 and pull about a 5 seed.

what you have to keep an eye on his how many teams get the auto bid that werent projected in. example, murray state is projected in the tournament as their conference winner, if they were to lose their conference tourney and another team get in along with murray state that takes away an at large bids.

we need as many of the favorites to win their conference tournaments so that there are more at large bids available. the more available the better our chances of getting one are.

I understand. I found the tourney section. I think it's better to estimate the likely matchups in the tourney as we go along and make a educated guess at the RPI movement team by team. That tourney section they have is just a stab in the dark. Nevertheless nice work! Hopefully we keep winning.

that was actually my fear is some people wouldnt read it all haha

I read it. Very, very good post. I like your posting style. You obviously know alot about this stuff, but don't act like a pompous, know it all ass when you post, like a few on here. Very good information, And very well worded.

I haven't done the math but I find it unlikely that a 10-6 record in the SEC wouldn't get a bye. Mostly because to go 10-6 UT would have to beat many of the other teams that would be jockeying for the 3 and 4 seeds, thus giving them the tie-breaker if needed.

At 10-6 with our loss being to vandy we would finish 5th in miss st can hold on to 4th place. In all honesty right now it's just too early to get a clear picture.

At this point we can look and say yes we have a chance, but it's too early to really say what needs to happen and way we need other teams to do. If we win both games this week we should have a much clearer picture.

Oh absolutely, lots can change depending in which games we win/lose. And then once in the sec t, if we draw higher rpi teams for our games that'll be a big help too.

As you said we really need to just keep winning and wait and see to get a better idea. But if nothing else I just wanted to show people it IS still possible mathematically to get in.
