Reality is we do have a chance...

Coach Martin is doing a good job.I just wish the players would have bought in a little earlier in the season and beat some of those lower tier teams that we lost to.Tennessee should not be playing Oakland and College of Charleston on the the road. They should be playing those games at home.

You play those games on the road because your supposed to win them and they would be big boosts to your RPI.

Uh. they beat us at home last year.

it's all about mental toughness on the road. they had it against Florida, but that is the only time we've seen it this season.

Okay. You're not convinced they've turned the corner yet. that's okay.
I picked FLa by 12 before the game. I wasn't convinced either.
I wasn't impressed that we beat them. I was impressed at how we beat them. domination.
did they make a run at the end? Yes
Did we stop it? Yes
Something we weren't doing all year.

Selection Committee selection criteria (in order):

  1. RPI
  2. Conference Winning Pct/Standings
  3. Road/Neutral Court Record
  4. Record in the last 10 games
  5. Record Against RPI Top 50
  6. Total Wins

I think we'll do well in 2 and 4.

4-5 wins against RPI Top50 would be sweet.

And to follow up on the Conference Winning Pct/Standings criteria:

Between 1995 and 2010, 88% of teams (359 out of 405) that finished above .500 in one of the six top conferences* (excluding automatic qualifiers) were invited to the Tournament

That tells me our chances at getting an invite at 10-6 are very good, even with our RPI. 9-7 would mean we'd probably have to win 2 at the SEC tourney and cross our fingers.

I can say that this team is maturing and is becoming a better team by learning how to play as a team, but we have some serious holes that would have to be filled before we could make a tourney run. and believe me, it saddens me to no end that I won't get to watch my Vols play in the tourney it's almost all we've had to look forward to for the last 5 years. but i can with confidence say that there are good things to come from CCM. if i'm not mistaken we're only losing Tatum. So next year should be exciting. and an entire off season of CCM practicing and conditioning. Stokes will be a man and the pride of the University this time next year.

Good find.

The other thing is big east is much weaker this year so more at large bids should be available. I think 10-6 and a decent sec showing and we have a great case.

I believe we went 9-7 in one of Buzz's years and didn't get in. I think Slay was a Sr if memory serves correct.

what holes did you see yesterday that need to be filled for this team to make a run?

Link? Based on everything I have ever read or watched about the selection committee. There is no prescribed selection criteria order.

Conference record has no real bearing. The #1 team in the SEC West has been left out of the last 2 tourneys I believe. Maybe even the last 3.

Yeah, that's not accurate info. They have all kinds of things they look at including:
RPI
Record of top 50 RPI
How you played lately
Injuries

They look at all of this but I think it comes down to what the committee members think of the team. Does the team belong with the other 37 at large teams? Can it compete? A lot of the time it's just their belief.

'Maybe'? You 'believe?' Come stronger next time..

And they broke up the divisions because the west didn't carry it's weight. 1 thru 4 in the east having a better record just meant the west champ didn't deserve a bye.

What stinks is that, even though they did away with the divisions, the teams still have to play their old division rivals twice. I wonder if they're ever going to change that. Let some of the old West teams have to play Ky twice. They would be getting another loss.

Come stronger? I was trying to be nice and just not say you were flat out wrong. But since you want it that way. You are wrong. What you posted is inaccurate. And you really have no idea how the NCAA selection process works. Strong enough for you?

I've been beaching about this all year. If its all one division why are we going to continue to play KY twice a year, not really fair IMO. As you said, let some of the west teams play KY twice.

This was a one year only thing since the schedules were already set. They will have to adjust next year for the 14 team conference anyway.

i still dont know that everything is set, but last i heard they were going with 1 game against all 13 opposing teams, and that you play 3 rivals schools 2 times each, making it a 16 game schedule.

so that means we'd be playing KY, VANDY, UF each 2x's.

wow just so happens they are 1,2 and 3 in the SEC, how lucky for us.

I haven't seen this. You sure FLA would be in that rival grouping?

Uhm yea im pretty sure, you can address it with the sec if you'd like haha. But thats the way it stand as of now.

out of curiousity if we pick 3 rivals, who would you say?

i would say florida vandy uk...so i understand it i just dont think that it's the right move. just alternate the other teams that you dont play twice each year, not fair to make certain teams play UK twice a year.

So... UK would play us, FL, and Candy for their rivals... FL would play us, Candy, and UK... USCjr would play SC State, CoC, and Spartanburg Community College? Hahahaha

thats the issue i have with this system. how is it fair we play UK, Vandy, UF and SC will play the absolutely jokes of the sec. and what is to stop say SC, from tanking it and saying auburn, lsu and miss are their main rivals?
