Recruiting Central

I will add this though, Steve Caldwell has done a good job with the DE's and Trooper Taylor has done a good job with the RB's and he is an excellent recruiter, so replacing them isnt really merited. But I think someone else on the staff should coach special teams. However, Slade the DB coach hasn't been very effective for several years now.

Hopefully more assistant changes will occur after the bowl games. But you are 100% correct about what has happened so far.

Caldwell is turning out great DE's. Someone on here a while back argued he stunk because of special teams.. I agree fully something has got to give. ST teams must be taught as a assault, a rare breed that makes the breaks in the game. Ryan Karl stands out as a guy that just wants to lay a helmet on someone every chance he gets. We are in the right direction going that way, but we have to do something to get field position. Even with a clicking offense 70-80 yards every change of possesion is wearing it thin.

Great point, and I don't think you have to resort to Texas A & M's 12th man. If a walk on can play with desire just think how much better a player with talent and desire could be.

Let's not forget the Fulmer-Slade mid-season redirect "Larry's going to retire at the end of the season."

Yeah, uh-huh. :realmad: :realmad:

What are the chances that Phil will add one of the recently fired Miami coaches to the staff? I know one of them was the running backs coach. Maybe he could coah recievers or trooper could be moved to recievers in order to make room for him at running backs.

I heard on the radio that Florida has commits from 7 of the top 15 prospects this year.

TE Ben Cleveland decommitted to the Gators...word is academics..and it also helped that Arky hired his HS coach as well.

It would be pretty funny if Mustain goes elsewhere and Houston Nutt's hiring of a high school coach to be his offensive coordinator nets him a Prop 48 tight end.

It would be funny..and prolly a good move for Cleveland since the TE doesn't get many touches in Meyers system. Just opens up another scholly for a much needed OL.

Man, was Springdale High School the Arkansas All Star team or something? There's Mustain, that TE, those WRs, and I saw a few days ago where an o-lineman committed to a big time school.

I just re-read that and saw it's just 'a' highschool coach from Arkansas, not necessarily Malzahn I suppose.

Chattanooga paper says Tennessee is recruiting a kid from Cam Mayo's high school. Stephaun Raines, 6 ft. 177, but runs a 4.38 40. He's being recruited by South Carolina, Arkansas and Tennessee. He's leaning to where ever Mustang goes. He's only a 2 star but what speed. His high school coach said he would have been rated higher if he had more exposure at camps and such.

I see that Rivals bumped us from 30 to 33rd. Don't they know that we have the best recruiter in the USA who always closes the deal with a bunch of HS All Americans just before Feb.1? What are they thinking over there?

this is a big recruiting weekend for the vols. according to rivals they are hosting 15 to 20 players this weekend.

Dave Hooker from KNS had an article today on Brandon Warren. Questions how firm his committment to Fla St. is and speculates that due to family pressures he could still end up at UT.

Warren really wants to play offense and Fla St. has told him he will be used in an offensive capacity primarily, and then as a third down pash rusher as well.

i don't know, but sometimes talent begets talent....take independecne high here in Charlotte...chris leak, CJ leak, Mohammed....Joe Cox....they've won over 80 games in a row and like 5 state championships....you get a couple of game breakers on a team, and the rest of the team has to try and keep up....pretty intense.

We should get Brandon Heath with out a visit. Nice Safety out of West Palm Beach Fl. West Va's win against Ga helped the Mountaineers but i think he still signs in Orange.

Is he fast enough to play corner?
