Recruiting Football Talk VII

Folks, I felt all year we would lose to Bama (Saban wanting revenge, the looney tunes in Bryant-Denny, and a favorable whistle for the Tide). I even barely missed the score (I thought 31-20).

What I have also believed all year is that we will beat UGA. They are due for a loss and it will be in Neyland.

The bigger concern I have is the real possibility of dropping one to Kentucky or Missouri.

I listened to local radio here in West TN, and they have no affiliation to UT or being a fan. They both thought it was probably the correct call to go for it. It was 4th and 1, and there was thought that Bama’s offense had figured it out and gained momentum. Everyone has an opinion, but I don’t think it “extended the boundaries of common sense.”
I've noticed that critiques of play calls and in-game decisions are very tricky because people tend to do these things after the result of the play is known. That is a gigantic distortion and severely tempts the critic to illicitly smuggle the success or failure of the decision that he praises or blames into his judgement of what should have been decided before the result was known.

I think the Bama game was lost on the sideline more than the roster. Below are some thoughts about Heupel. Would love to hear your thoughts.

✅ Heupel is Uber competitive, and that typically presents itself in the form of, “I’m going to score as many points as possible.” It’s been his path to victory as a head coach.

✅ This is the best defensive team he has ever had.

✅ in the 1st half he was pretty aggressive and it paid off by moving up and down the field, but he got conservative in the red zone with a lot of runs up the middle and safe throws.

✅ As the game progressed he got more and more conservative. Just a lot of “play it safe” play calling rather than his usual “try to score every possession” approach.

✅ But then his natural self would rise up and go for it on 4th down in Some questionable spots.

✅ Basically, I don’t think Heupel fully knows what to do with / how to manage the makeup of this team. He is still relatively early in his HC career. You can almost see his gears grinding with this group…”I’ve actually got a defense…my QB is a manger not a play maker…I don’t need as many points as I used to…but I’m a gunslinger by nature.”

I’d take that deal

You couldn’t prove it. You can only give opinions.
Manning losing Heisman. Fact, not opinion.

ESPN outing Fulmer as the whistle-blower. Fact, not opinion.

ESPN (same reporter that outed Fulmer) leading the charge in 1999 about player's grades, academics, tutors, and violations...while almost crickets about FSU, North Carolina and others. Fact, not opinion.

Not only drug through the mud, but drown in it, because we said no to Greg Schiano. Fact, not opinion.

Changing rules in baseball about celebrations because of 2022 Vols, even though celebrations had been going on before. Fact, not opinion.

Dylan Crews and Sonny DiChiara sharing SEC POTY in 2022. Fact, not opinion. While both were absolutely great, no one with a straight face can say Drew Gilbert wasn't the POTY...or, Trey Lipscomb. While that is an opinion, it's still FACT as FACT gets, and no one will ever convince me otherwise.

Only 2 player's off the 2022 baseball team made first team all conference. Fact, not opinion.

ESPN broadcaster, on live television, accuses Evan Russell of being on drugs. Fact, not opinion.

Same broadcaster, same broadcast, says our ENTIRE team will submit to a drug test. Fact, not opinion.

Maui Ahuna held out of the first games last year. Fact, not opinion.

After Ole Miss game, the media, conference, and college football as a whole absolutely skull-drug us for throwing trash on the field, while crickets about everyone else doing it. Fact, not opinion.

Hendon Hooker not being invited as a finalist for Heisman. Fact, not opinion.

Whenever I Googled "Tennessee football" this past week, the first three stories that popped up were stories from Alabama publications about Bama football. Fact, not opinion.

Officials absolutely ***** us this past Saturday. Fact, not opinion.

I could go on...

Now, I'm not trying to prove anything, anything at all, I only listed facts. And, as I said, I could go on and on and on for awhile, throughout 30+ years. Im not going to get into a back and forth about it...just showing that, no, it's not all "just opinions".

Do the basketball officials have something against us too? Need to know if I should be excited for the season
Our team is known to be physical. We do get egregious fouls called on us.

Baseball is umpired suspiciously as well. We get a smaller zone than LSU in the CWS is the most obvious example.

We’re screwed in the big 3.

But again, we just sound like whiny bitches if we say anything about it

This officiating debate sucks. Whether it’s true or not, we just sound like whiny bitches complaining about it. No one will believe us. It’s just pointless.
True. It’s taking away valuable board space that could be used to complain about how the team sucks, how the coaching staff sucks, how deficient the recruiting class is, and how we’re gonna finish 7-5 and be looking for a new coach in 2-3 years.

Im gonna pull back the curtain and share the biggest secret in sports with you guys. Im surprised I've not seen this talked about more but Vegas controls sports. Not influences, controls!!! Always follow the money and what makes sense.
There's one main reason why we seem to get bent over more than any other team. Tennessee is a liability to Vegas. When we are good and rolling, the backing behind Tennessee is massive. Tennessee winning= losses for Vegas

Fulmer wasn’t the only coach that blew the whistle on bama back then. Shame on those fckers that reported him acting alone or making it appear that way.

Pretty interesting take. Certainly not unbelievable.

if someone asked me to prove that there was no galvanized effort to undermine unpopular teams like Tennessee. I would say that there would be more evidence to support there is, than there isnt. Evidence is circumstantial, but is substantial.
It's not just substantial...at this point it is monumental.
