I watched the replay. Several times.
Left hand grabbing the middle of the back, right hand on the right shoulder.
Ball carrier was spun 180* and then forcefully pulled/slung backwards.

I don’t have to ever have reffed to be able to see what happened or know what the rule says.

I also know those that do officiating get it WRONG sometimes.

This is one of them times.
Of course there have been lots of examples of missed calls, especially in our games, but this play is not one of them. Your own description of being “spun 180*” negates a horse collar. Also if you’re comparing the one called against LSU, the LSU defender uses his weight to fall behind the runner to bring him down. When Daniels had the ball, the defender stays on his feet and everyone continues to move downfield.

Now please stop making me admit when a Bammer actually didn’t commit a penalty.

IMO…. both side are right in this instance…. The rule is a safety rule from the NFL… mainly from the way Roy Williams from the cowboys use to tackle guys from behind… Players were getting injured when he would reach in the collar and pull straight down using his body… It got adjusted to the nameplate also. Refs are being sent video and instruction demonstrating what they want called. It is what the refs are saying on this page. It is not the grabbing, twisting, and the throwing down that was done in this instance.

The problem is that the rule is pretty vague and can be interpreted to mean almost any grabbing/tackling around that area from behind..It also means that an official may interpret/use it in that manner to call a Horse Collar tackle against teams not named Alabama.

I was curious about some stats around our performances home vs away while Heupel has been here and so I crunched some numbers first on defensive performance. I simply averaged out every teams points allowed while at home and on the road and then looked at the two to see a change in performance over the last 2 and a half seasons. I excluded any neutral site games.

The last column, Performance Change, is the difference in PPG that they average on the road, vs what they do at home. The lower the percentage, the more consistent your defense whether home or away. This is not an indictment on whether or not your defense is good. Look at Ole Miss for example, they have the 2nd best consistency on their defense, but they rank 8th in the SEC in PPG at home. Their defense performs ~10% worse on the road.. so not a huge difference whether home or away. Surprisingly, Vanderbilt and Miss State actually perform better on the road. Or maybe not surprisingly when you figure Vandy averages 15 fans a game and Miss State players probably hate cowbells.

For us, there is a larger difference. We are 8th. When we are on the road the defense performs ~39% worse then it does when we are at home. We are 5th in the SEC over this time period in defensive PPG while at home. We are 9th in the SEC over this time period in defensive PPG on the road. Tomorrow, if I have time, I'm going to look at this same thing but for offense.

Edit: posted the wrong chart when I was at my computer and just realized it. I’m not at my computer now. 🤦🏻‍♂️ I’ll respond to this post tomorrow with the chart.

The lady decided she was going to download DraftKings and use their promo of bet $5, get $200 free in bets. So 8 $25 bets. Her first bet you ask? Freaking ridiculous $25->$1100

The most annoying part (besides her rubbing it in my face) is she had to be the only person in America to bet in Presbyterian

Welppp time to download draft kings. Your fault if I go broke

I have this thought. It’s a foreign concept here on volnation, but just hear me out. It’s possible, stay with me now, it’s POSSIBLE to have a difference of opinion and discuss it without calling someone a blind idiot or getting upset about it. Just a thought.

In high school the rule is pulled backwards or to the side. In college it says immediate. You are just never going to see it called when the runner ends up falling forward or if there is contact from a second defender. The rule is intended to prevent the runner’s legs from buckling underneath them. A defender can grab the nameplate/inside collar all day to slow the runner down. Heck you can grab the nameplate and hop on his back and ride him like a horse and it still isn’t a penalty.
Then they should state the rule that way. It’s not how it’s written.

Sounds like something a blind idiot would say...........

I kid.

It says immediately take them down, which means drop your weight and drag them, not throw them sideways. The dragging down is what causes injury, not throwing someone to the side. The intent of the rule was when Roy Williams tackled Terrell Owens that way.
I’m glad you know what the intent means. Daniels was grabbed by the collar and pulled down. By the rule, it was a penalty. The rule needs to state “a buckling of the knees and pulled back” if that is the intent.

Sling shotting a player is not safe even if you deem it “safer” than a classic horse collar tackle.

For example, moneyline parlays on three underdogs, including Presbyterian to beat an SEC team.
Vandy didn’t have their 3 best players, or I thought they didn’t for that game, so tbh it wasn’t THAT bad of a pick.

Only 5 of Vandys guys have any college experience
