Rule of thumb is to keep your in state talent at home..by all means necessary...can't let the Tee Higgins of the state leave no matter what...then invade surrounding states....
Sure, but lets not forget how many states we've pulled the best recruits from. I think we have the #1 overall recruit from a few states. We do need to keep our talent, but we are in the center of a huge talent pool from several states that border us, just several hours from their hometowns. No reason we can't get them to cross that imaginary state line and come play here.

Look back at last year, too, and you can see this team has problems on the road, especially defense. Not counting Vanderbilt, because Vanderbilt just doesn't count, the only road game we just played lights out in last season was LSU. We struggled at Pitt. And we lost at SCar and UGA. The Florida and Bama wins at home just helped mask our road woes. For whatever reason, this team does not travel well.

Especially the defense, IMO.
And defense should be the one thing that travels. Ours doesn’t. It needs the crowd to be disruptive. This = average defense to me. Our offense 100% relies on consistent QB play and ability to process quickly.

People could say the same of Fulmer, but sometimes coaches just grow complacent. I think Mack Brown needed the change in scenery, and Texas just needed a new coach.

@Weezer man I’m so mad right now ..I had something beautifully typed elaborating on this and my phone refreshed randomly..so give me a second to touch on this topic imma try to remember it all because it was sticky worthy beautiful.definitely a blast from the past of how we got here now.

ESPN has us in the Duke's Mayo Bowl or Music City Bowl

247 has us in the Music City

Action Network has us in the Gator Bowl

Athlon has us in the Gator Bowl

The Tennessean has us in the Gator Bowl

Have to take recent history into account. The conference likes to spread the teams/frequency out. But the bowls and host cities want the teams that travel the best and spend the most money.

Please replace the "L" in rows 49 and 54 with "jobbed by officials" TIA

Hahaha I go to bed at 9pm CST, so I went to bed with the odds barely in my favor 15-9 at halftime. That’s the best part of prime time bets, I wake up to winners 😂😂
That's why I like betting taijiquan in china. . . they start at like 3am. Wake up to a winner is always good, 😂

I was telling my wife last night about the sad news I heard on the radio while driving home. Apparently a pretty famous actress killer herself. My wife asked me who it was and I could not remember the full name but thought her first name was Reese. She gasped, Oh No.!! Witherspoon!!???
I said no, apparently she did it with her knife
I went to my weekly Plastic Surgery Anonymous meeting last night.....................

Was really disappointed to see so many new faces................ 🧐

3 years ago was 3 years ago. It's a much, much more attractive job now. You're either trolling or you really haven't a clue.
Not to stick my nose in here, but with all the coaching changes and talk about poaching players from those programs, why is it so easy to forget that all this young defensive talent we're stockpiling chose to play for Banks and Martinez? Human nature for them to at least consider the portal if we fired one or both, no? I mean the portal works both ways. While the old saying about choosing the school not the coach sounds good in theory, it's all about relationships in recruiting. We've seen it with Riley and others. Kids can and sometimes do follow coaches or at least go somewhere else. Talent will make even an average coach look pretty darned good. When I look at our offense this year and recall what guys like Hooker, Hyatt and Tillman meant to that offense, it just makes me think we might want to show a little patience with Banks and yes, Martinez. Recruiting is going pretty well right now and the talent is coming. Maybe not rock the boat just yet, show some patience and stability for the sake of recruiting and see how they do with better players? If things don't improve, so be it. I'm betting they do. I really believe this staff is fighting with one hand tied behind their backs this year. The veterans just aren't at a level to be much better than an 8 win team. As the saying goes....water finds it's own level.

Im not sure why people draw lines around the state and think that's where our talent pool ends. We are dead center of all the best talent in America We are a day drive to 70% of the nation. There is 0 reason we can't compete to be in the top3 of the SEC every year, imo.

Even if we do that, there will be some 6-6, 7-5 seasons sprinkled in here and there. 8-4, 9-3 is an incredible overall average. We should be knocking on the door of 10+ wins every year from '25 on out, if Heupel stays and keeps the same trajectory he's shown since he got here.

I'm not saying Tennessee shouldn't compete for it - I just don't think we should expect they will actually land those kinds of classes every single year in the same way Bama and Georgia have. I've concluded this after watching all of it over the last 20+ years, as the overall college football landscape has shifted and new powers have arisen. And that was before the addition of Texas to the SEC.

But that doesn't mean we can't be a fun, competitive football program that wins a national title at some point in the not too distant future...

No experienced coach is gonna come here with a young, inexperienced defense. Experienced coaches want to go places where they can step into a position with players that are gonna make them look good. Experienced coaches can be more selective. This job would be attractive to someone else that isn't afraid of a challenge.
No opinion on Banks and replacing him, but I would be shocked if an experienced DC didn’t want to come here. SEC, elite CFB brand, plenty of money, and we have a lot of really good young talent. The guys we brought in the last two classes and this one have a ton of upside.

Hot take: With the playoffs expanding to 12 teams, being able to win consistently on the road is less important.

Give me a team that owns its home turf and neutral fields, and does just enough to pick off weaker teams on the road.
