Recruiting Football Talk VII

That’s what concerns me somewhat with Harper. It’s much harder to force a VFL out as HC. It’s difficult for any program to push away a beloved alum.

Unfortunately, the writing is on the wall for Harper, and I hope the inevitable exit is smooth. I trust our current admin to handle it gracefully.
I'm not sure there is a graceful solution-- at least not one with any likelihood of happening. It's a political hot potato, and IDT anyone is eager to take it on.

CJH seems OK with keeping the staff intact another year if Banks doesn't find a HC opp. All things equal, IDT he'll make a lateral move.
I remember a lot of talk when Heupel was hired that Danny White was very involved in building the defensive staff. If that’s true, it wouldn’t be surprising to me if JH took a hands off approach again.

It should be a business decision on both ends and handled professionally. You approach it as we appreciate evertthing you’ve done for the school as a player and coach but it’s not working out. These people get paid millions to make decisions like this. There’s really no justification left for keeping Harper and she should know that.

I'll fire her for a $50 chick filet gift card. I'll throw in Banks for a buy one get one.

I believe it was the admin as a whole and the main requirement was they really wanted a minority in one of the top 3 positions on staff. We don't know who would've or wouldn't have been on the list or even hired if that requirement wasn't in place

Kensucky is broke and they landed a QB and are about to land a starting rb.

When are we going to do something?
I do not think this suggestion will have any impact. But here we go anyways. You put other posters in a catch-22. You are an incessant whinner that is the equivalent to 'nails on a chalkboard' to read. Everything is over-the-top negativity and 'whoa is us' and typically in those cases it is not a bid deal because Freak has a great message board format that includes an ignore feature. However, you started so many dang threads that when I put you on ignore I can't see the entire thread that you created to keep up with what is going on with those recruits. My only request is to please stop being the one that starts the threads so I can simply leave you on ignore or continue to start threads but sack-up.

I don't disagree with you. And this is how UT does business. But right or wrong, this is an unusually emotional issue with multiple issues attached. I don't really need to get into them. Sometimes business and personal overlap, and things get complicated. The time to uncomplicate them is long past. At this juncture, either path will be costly.

No way Banks would make a lateral move. No one would leave a job with the 7th highest salary in the country and 0 pressure or expectations.

Banks is going to stay and collect as long as we let him. He's not landing a higher paying job with those results.

Yeah, seems like some kids can't look past the first big payday. Long term NIL won't make you rich, too many families and friends leech these athletes dry. Taking the fast/easy money is why so many end up broke within a few years of hanging it up.

Free transfer though, when Deion bails he can follow him to the next spot OR go get wine & dined a second time for a new team.
truth.

It's those six little words in your next to last sentence that would be the difference maker.

That's also anyone (or most). Even if it's 100k more for a head coaching job....I don't see why you wouldn't leave. Assuming you know your salary is maxed or nearly maxed at your current position. I guess he interviewed for MTSU HC gig or was a candidate. I read their HC Salary was $1M>. Looked at On3's salary list for all coaches and Banks is not but so far down. The schools' HC salaries near his current salary are decent mid-tier programs like Memphis and I doubt he lands a job like that. Unless a poverty program is suddenly ready to throw some $ at him that they did not in previous years he'll be here.

We could prob go get a backup qb with 21 career pass attempts if we wanted.

Would that make you happy?
Could you tell Banks to get a couple of difference makers from the portal? That'd be nice. Not AS concerned on offense. I know we could use a few players there, but I really think we could help ourselves on defense if we just would.
