Recruiting Football Talk VII

Of the three we were after this weekend; I believe two already started for their teams, and the third, Heard, was a true freshman this past year. Recent history has proven the biggest variety is in the current window. It's a 30-day window whereas the Spring window is 15.
So they are looking to get paid. I don't blame them, but our coaches have shown that they will offer you what THEY think you are worth. If you want more then you go play somewhere that will pay you more. It is as simple as that. Coaches are building more than a year to year team like Prime at CU or swinging hard for the fences for a one year ROI like Lane at Ole Puss. If they think over paying for OL depth will cause problems within the overall team chemistry then they probably won't do it. If they find the right guy they will take him. It is not overly complicated.

Well considering the fact that Elarbee and Huepel were an entire recruiting class behind due to the players that left before and after Huepel arrived. We are not done with portal I'll reserve my judgment until then. Honestly this next recruiting cycle will be the telltale on Elarbee. He can develop. Give him time
Keep seeing the "time" factor mentioned. I know the Pruitt situation put us in a hole, but it's not like there haven't been other recruiting classes and this isn't year 1 of the portal. While I'm certainly in support of taking the long term approach vs short term fix, I can't help but think that this might be a time that I'd consider as the exception to that rule. If Nico is the player we all hope he is, can we afford to wait on our young OL to grow into the position? Maybe Heupel and Ellarbee will pull a proverbial rabbit out of their hats and find a couple of starters after spring ball and both will be super fast in learning the system, adjusting to our pace and they'll integrate into the mix seamlessly all in the span of one short fall camp. Yeah, I can see it.

Our LT is from the portal, and our RT was from the portal until he decided to leave. So, they have utilized it.

The 2022 class was a miss, but I believe we have a good coach at the position. Just need to develop and grab another with some experience. Not sure why some are completely up in arms on January 7.

Every time a tackle happens in a Dolphins game now I hold my breathe for a second and hope that there’s not another injury..

Maybe they're looking to get paid. Maybe they're looking for a chance to step up in competition. Maybe it's both. In the case of the Kansas kid and Pounds, both are coming from outside the SEC, so it could be one, the other, or both. In the case of Heard, he's a talented true freshman currently who from my understanding is buried behind two talented sophomores, so add in he could be looking to start.

I think it very possible in the cases of Pounds and Heard that they were enticed into the portal by another team, very possibly Ole Miss. Tampering seems to be the new way of things, and I'm wondering if we need to be willing to go there as well.

I will be worried if we are in this situation after the April Portal ends. Not now

For the umpteenth time....it's a matter of time and reps. Why is that so hard to grasp? It's not like it's a piece of cake for an OL transfer to walk into fall camp and be repped and ready to roll in this offense. Having spring ball plus fall camp would make the transition easier. Not saying it's impossible, but there's a reason this staff was after these three guys and that they wanted them now. Spring practice might not be such a big deal for a guy like Cooper because he's lived it for several years. To expect a new face to just run with things after a short fall camp is a bit unrealistic.

Bills gonna win this game. 3 turnovers and still couldn't separate.
4 straight punts..

Defense, despite being as incredibly short handed as they have been, is the only reason we stayed in the game.

Time to head up to take on the Super Bowl champs next week with a depleted roster. What could go wrong?

Man these nfl teams seem to have no concept of time sometimes. Buffalo is content to give Miami the ball with 3 minutes left?

Especially with this type of offense
