While I agree, it’s just not the real world. If you all knew how much Haslem has given to UT, you would want input into the program as well. I’m not saying they are doing that right now, but if I gave what they have, I would want some input.
A strong AD keeps them informed/listens to their input but keeps them at a semi-distance… Dickey was the last strong AD we had…. He was able to manage the boosters pretty well…. The years inbetween Dickey and DW is what happens when the boosters have too much input/meddle.

I appreciate all the boosters and we wouldn’t stand a chance without them.

This....all day. You never let them make personnel decisions. That's not their job.

Without any insider knowledge but from convos here and elsewhere, perhaps Ole Miss isn't focused nearly as much on 'fit with the environment' and is taking any 'big target' willing to come there way even if that person causes disruption in the locker room.

True but you would think a program like Auburn or Florida who needs players, has more fans and $$$, would be all over it.

Ole Miss is definitely going to get a lot of hype in 2024, we will see how it goes.

We think our o-line troubles are bad...Oklahoma has lost all the highlighted players off their depth chart to nfl or transfer portal, including the entire starting line. The did bring in 3 3star transfers that haven't really played a lot at their old schools

I respect your opinion but find it ironic that you're asking people not to worry about or discuss recruiting in the forum dedicated to recruiting.
They aren't discussing recruiting. They are just blaming coaches and players for sucking. They assume that the coaches suck because they didn't get any of the OL that were discussed about over the weekend without thought or consideration to what those players asked for in terms of promises that our coaches may not have been willing to make. Our coaches have flaws and I freely admit that, but with what they have done over the past three years with where we were both roster and culture wise earns them a little gratitude and leeway in my book. My problem is at any perceived sign of negativity we start bashing players or coaches like we have any understanding of the details that they are working with. I don't have a problem with holding people accountable but people pull out their Jump to Conclusions Mats waaaaaay tooo early IMO.

I quit paying for a subscription due to a lack of great intel, but I listen to all of their podcasts, and I would agree with what the previous poster said. I can go find a podcast, but don't feel compelled. That said, I cannot say for a fact they used those exact words on their board.

We have a glut of guys who have not stepped up or differentiated themselves, and we have no clear succession plan in spots despite a number of bodies. The best example I can offer is that we are still dealing with Mincey. If we had better options, he'd have been gone, in my opinion.
We don't know what the succession plan is because the coaches don't deem fit to run everything past us.... which I am glad of because we are too emotional when it comes to our football program.

The problem is though, we have a national championship winning level QB, with a not so good O line. Yes this last class shows promise, but those guys probably won't help Nico.

Exactly, this current signing class more than likely has very little impact on the next two seasons. Nico's two-year window will make or break Heupel's tenure at Tennessee.

between NIL, Elarbee and Dayne Davis...it's been nothing but an echo chamber in here the past few days.

but you're 100% correct here. there's sooooo much we don't know, and will probably never know, about how this portal recruiting is working behind the scenes. It makes these absolute judgements being made that much more ridiculous.

the O line isn't "not so good". we're missing a couple of pieces.

the thing everyone seems to be forgetting is that the PRIMARY reason we're trying to be so active on the OT position is so that we don't have to play someone there that still needs some development. that isn't a fancy way of saying who we have sucks.

in terms of managing the roster at that position, everybody basically agrees that OL, esp OT, is a development position even for the higher rated guys. how long that development curve is, is the question. and if we can land a couple of dudes right now to help bridge that developmental gap, that's what we're going to do.

that's the goal. not to replace the 'trash players' we currently have. we have some good young talent. and we have some guys that need some work. adding guys that can come in and start right now buys time.
