Recruiting Football Talk VII

It’s Mel Kiper. It rarely ends up remotely close to his vision. But MHJ definite top 5 unless he goes full Subway Jared around the Combine and Pro Days. Errybody in Bears Fantasy Football Land is either All Caleb or Keep Justin without any allowances for process. What I respect about Poles is he has an open ended board and free agency outlook that doesn’t pretend it all gets fixed at once. ONE guy never does all that. Would love to add MHJ…also wouldn’t pass on an Alt or Fashunu. Waldron properly appreciates a two TE set so if Bowers drops in that 9-12 area (and someone always does), why pass on that kind of talent? BUT Colorado State’s TE has the type of potential that makes a ton of dollarage in his second contract and could be available on the second or third day. Have I ever mentioned how much I love franchise building? 😉

On your Cowboys, the East-West Shrine happens on Thursday and they’re playing across the street from where I work. Castles and Small are on the roster. Several interesting OL, DL and RB amongst other pieces to add. Obvious your boys need to identify OTs and RBs and corners. Predict that the LT from Arizona and BYU are pre-Combine persons of interest with Tyron Smith’s contract finished.
Read going draft a OG and move Tyler Smith to LT?

Also read Mike Evans is on wish list in off season , I believe Micheal Thomas would come as a cheaper price tag though..

I feel like he has been more fair to UT than some. I don't listen to him enough to draw a broad conclusion, but the little I have listened I've liked.
I don’t dislike the guy. He has just been increasingly arrogant in his assumptions and takes. Which is the opposite of what drew people to him to begin with.

Tyler made second team All-Pro at OG tho. Feed Pedro to trick Paul.

I would assume any employment contract that would accompany 7 figure deals would look more like a coach's contract than a simple employment agreement. A coach can bail if they like, but they are liable for the buy out. They might be able to do that in NIL agreements, but I don't get the sense that they have the teeth an employment contract does.

And I doubt efficiency matters when you are dealing with this size enterprise. We ain't paying kids to flip burgers.

The bottom line is that almost none of the kids are being paid for NIL, they are being paid to play. People can judge the motives of the coaches who are complaining, but if the Sabans and Dabos complain loudly enough to the right people, the system will get scrutiny, and with scrutiny will come changes. It will happen.

It's very easy to feel like there is no problem when things are going well for your team because people other than yourself are spending big bucks to make your team successful. Rest assured, many of those here completely happy with the system will be the loudest complainers the minute the system leaves us less competitive.
I don't think my points are irrelevant just because I disagreed. If I hear my school asking to make students employees I will champion it. I have not.

I wasn't suggesting they are irrelevant. I'm also not suggesting that we make them employees. I'm just saying that paying them for NIL, when clearly they are being paid to play, is likely to force some changes. Employment might be the only legal way to handle it.

JMO, but I started seeing bits of Josh back around 2020ish but I’ve been consistently listening to him during the season for about 2 years now, and I have the opposite view. He’s always been the way he is now for as long as I’ve been listening. I’d still rather listen to him than 90% of other CFB media people.

I would as well.

He just seemed very arrogant this year. Like he got some new found access or something.

Pate is a happy medium between extensive Xs and Os and the opposite. He goes into matchups, stats, and things to look out for better than most of the national media but stops short of being one of those guys that goes way in depth on things. I think that’s why I like him as that’s what I’m looking for. If I want to dig deeper into schemes, X and Os, etc then I have other avenues but he does a good job giving quick and digestible insight into matchups better than most of the other national options out there.
He's the only one I care to listen to, for the reasons you stated. I like to listen to Joel Klatt from time to time as well.

No offense to anyone that dislikes these I should have posted those in the pub, but didn't think until after.

I think you invented him being arrogant in your own mind. If he's arrogant what are actual arrogant people to you? Is he being confident or arrogant? Are you looking for a reason to dislike him because he's so likeable?

Listen to him more. He’s constantly tooting his own horn about predictions, contacts and so on. He’s wrong quite a bit also but never brings those instances up. When you live in a glass house, don’t throw rocks.
I listen to pretty much every episode.

Apparently, you're the one who doesn't listen to him much. (And considering what you think of him, why would you?)

He frequently brings it up when he's wrong. He owns it, but usually in a kidding or sarcastic kind of way. And his tooting his own horn is also in a kidding kind of way.

And he's very careful not to 'throw rocks' at others, which often gets him criitcized as sucking up. On the rare occasions he does, it's toward the "casuals", who often speak the loudest, but know the least.

Reading all this stuff about the Super Bowl. What should matter is the GAME. I don't care who the players are dating or who they plan to vote for or what products they endorse. Only watched NFL the last two weeks out of boredom. What I see is a boring product that pales in comparison to SEC Saturdays and that's gotten too wrapped up in drama crap. Rather watch Fun Belt and MACtion.
It's JJ vs Trey. That's what matters to me.

Y'all can trash Pate all you want, but if we lose a coach due to the chaos you may feel differently.
Not really. Head coaches get paid millions of dollars. I realize they do a lot in terms of recruiting, coaching, dealing with college kids, etc. BUT THEY"RE GETTING PAID MILLIONS OF DOLLARS.

Do we have any current '25 5* WR recruits interested in us at this point? I don't think I have seen one--- There should be at least one to two with where we are right now as a program and our QB room...
