Well, Christian, you took a pretty big L on this one.

But don’t worry, you’re not going home empty handed. For participating, you’ll receive a one year’s supply of Rice-a-Roni and the VolNation.com home game!
Freshly caught for @Christian Lowe...

I will say that the news we've learned today, especially the fact that a lawsuit from the State of Tennessee and the Commonwealth of Virginia has already been filed, has greatly reduced my concern. My argument was always about how much time would pass before Tennessee would get a positive resolution and what damage could take place within that timeframe. It's clear that Tennessee, all the way up to the governor, was prepared and ready to fight right now, and not wait until a notice of allegations was actually presented. I still think we might come out of this with a few bruises, but we're taking the fight to the NCAA head on, and I think we'll have plenty of support from other states. We will win the war.

I

I'm curious how/why it was inevitable. The NCAA knows it's on dangerous footing per the courts. They should know that coming after UT as repeat offenders is basically, needlessly cornering a dangerous and wounded animal that will fight existentially.

I'm not sure how the NCAA could do a risk/reward analysis and think, "Yep. We have to do this. It's inevitable".

ETA: Not questioning you. I appreciate the info.
The NCAA is arrogant and accustomed to acting with impunity. They went after UT hard and seemed to feel UT did not get what was coming to it from the first investigation. Branding UT a repeat offender opened the door for stiffer penalties. They could punish UT, throw their weight around on NIL and make an example of a big, powerful program to show other programs they are in control-- three birds, one stone. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. And sooner or later, someone isn't going to take it any more.

I just think ol Skanks is just jumping on the the winning team's bus. If the winds were blowing in the other direction, he'd be throwing us under the bus. Jmo
It’s in his interest as the Commish of the most lucrative and successful sports conference. Any power that the NCAA loses accrues predominantly to him.

UT is on top of this NCAA investigation. Admin knew it was coming, and it was inevitable. The NCAA thought UT was not punished sufficiently last year, they did not like the support UT brought in and they were not through with UT. UT did not appreciate the way the NCAA said one thing and did another, and UT admin did not appreciate the late add-ons.

Everybody put a good public face on it, but neither side was happy with the other or the outcome of the investigation. Coming after UT as a repeat offender was always going to happen. The NCAA wanted to make an example out of big powerful school, and UT has been painted as a rogue program in multiple sports. (Hint: baseball.) This is unfinished business, and UT is prepared to finish it.

Perhaps, the Power Five could agree to leave the NCAA. Would love to see it.

Doesn’t seem like a coincidence that we were fined a random 8 million now as part of the last investigation lol
I always wondered how they got that number and now the tea leaves are showing it
The fine being exactly the amount Nico was rumored to have received, and the fact that the NCAA decided to leak the story to Forde shows what their motivation is.
