I don’t disagree with either of the points you both have made.


I will say this though: we did not win Knecht because of NIL. He was pretty much a nobody until this recruiting cycle. Listen to any interview there’s ever been about him and NIL isn’t mentioned once. His NIL has been a product of the work he’s done here. We got Knecht because of who Rick Barnes is and the program he has developed. Get coached hard, get coached well, be surrounded by high integrity - high skill - high effort players, be at a university where student athletes are valued as much or more than any university in the country by its fans and everyone associated with the university, and win games - a lot of them.

We got Knecht because of CRB coaching Kevin Durant!

I love CRB and hope he retires here! Not a knock on Barnes!

Heck, ZZ could have been coming down with the flu during the game. It's amazing how it sucks an athlete before any other symptom shows. I've experienced it. Next day I was sick.

I noticed that a one point Friday night, Z had some kind of nose stopper in one nostril. Looked sort of like a white earbud. But when I looked later, it was gone. Idk.

Whoever it is I just hope they don't see it as being in Pat's shadow. They should want to coach for a university with all the best to offer them to make them the best coach they can be.

That's for sure. That would make them more like Pat than anything else. Pat was not in Pat's shadow. Pat was making her own way.

Good article. I’d be very happy with Gottlieb. Tremendous recruiter. Proven coach. Smart. Connected. Young enough to reach all time elite potential here.

I also think of the reaction ZZs mom has had to our school with it being so foreign to her and how much she’s come to appreciate it. I’m not opposed to diverting from the status quo if it’s for the right person. Maybe Gottlieb is that person, and maybe she comes to have the same feeling when she gets to know us beyond being the birthplace of the career of Pat Summit. You take a culturally different person, different from Pat in most ways except those that truly matter to finding success, having the same values and goals as the program and its fan base, coupled with results on the court, and you get broken down barriers and a happy ever after story for everyone that you’ve not seen except by the one coach youve always thought could never have her success matched and hoped wouldn’t overshadow her potential successors.

It’s a nice dream! I’d settle for her getting us back to the final four a couple times a decade.

His highlight film is crazy if anybody wants to watch…for his size he is already one of the most athletic DL on the team imo he is just green right now but if Garner taps into that potential woo boy

Remember the kid played WR/CB in high school before packing on like 60-80 pounds in Juco

He might have a screw loose, but worth the risk. Garner should make him a beast.

regardless, why single him out? He’s one of the most respectful and respected coaches in the game. Do whatever you need to do to motivate yourself, but keep my coaches name out of your mouth. Not winning any fans calling people out, cussing on national television, trying to make the case for how a giant deserves respect after getting overlooked (how ironic).

Maybe nobody thought the refs would call you like they are. Ever think of that? Not like you look particularly athletic out there. Gimme a break. Dudes gonna get a rude awakening if he has to go against another 7 footer against UConn in the finals.

Hoping big dude from NC State crushes him. Literally. And Bama gets smoked.

I will be very disappointed if it is Lawson. Not because I have any bad feeling towards her, but I want a more proven winner and the optics will look like DW succumbed to the preasure to hire an ex Lady Vol.

Agreed. That would look like more of the same. DW has proven himself. I hope he has no leash to go get who he wants. And I trust him to get a winner.

Losing in the first round gonna catch some recency flack...otherwise looks solid in March. No titles, but very respectable.

Can he recruit?

Been able to recruit good enough at Louisville to make 4 Final Four's, 2 time runner-up. I think he's peaked it out there, though. Don't think their NIL is up to snuff, compared to other power houses.

If not Staley, he's the whale, imo. I believe he can return the Lady Vols back to their rightful place.

Or learn how to act. I am a newbie but I found it pretty easy to figure who knew what they were talking about when it comes to baseball. And I learned from them. There's actually a lot of knowledge on these boards, interspersed with the wisecracking, for someone who wants to pay attention.
