What about Zach Edey makes refs not whistle him for obvious fouls? That's what I don't understand. Take away the non-whistles, and he's not that special of a player. His "greatness" comes from being allowed to foul and break rules with zero repercussions. Other than that, he's just really tall. So why do refs continually overlook his play? It's crooked as hell. I wish they'd do the same for Awaka, then it would have at least been a fair fight.
It’s the feel good story of the year per ncaa basketball. The moment he decided to come back for his senior year, the ncaa marketing machine went into story mode. They had an agenda all year to keep this awesome story alive. I’m not sure that it’s really that great of a story since he requires so much help to have great games…

The absolute #1 reason we lost is all the non-calls on Edey. That is a fact. I'd put #2 on ZZ being ice cold shooting the ball, but you can't escape #1. FFS. all the non-calls on Edey could easily be reasons 1-4.
I have not seen ZZ miss as many shots in a game all year. I am definitely not blaming him at all. If ZZ and Aidoo made 1/3 of their shots, it would have been a totally different game.

Just needed one more player to get to double digits and Tennessee wins. Even with the foul inequities. ☹️

Any news on the end-of-year meeting with CRB and DW? Getting anxious…. when he does retire, I can see it being a very quiet exit. I think that will be the way he wants it. Has there already been an announcement on this?

My hope is we have him for another 3-5 years…..

Of course, nothing is ever certain, but behind the scenes, Rick is showing no indication that he intends to retire soon.

ZZ's legs were gone. Too many minutes without an adequate PG back up in rotation. That is on CRB. Love our coach, but there are still gaps in the roster and apparently in development. Playing Aidoo against stronger big men is pointless. Awaka is strong, but too short to do it. That is a roster issue.

It is also a system issue. Playing great defense as a qualifier to get you on the floor is not it anymore. The officials negate that advantage. Being on the rules committee of the NCAA is not it anymore. Officials are permitted and given choice assignments for ignoring the rules if it benefits a preferred team. There are no absolutes, everything is relative. Example: an established position by a defensive player means nothing now. A bigger player on O is permitted to initiate contact and bull or shove the defensive player out of the way. If the defense player responds he is called for a foul. Totally against the rules as written, but called that way consistently game after game, year after year. Don't even get me started on the disappearance of the 3 second call as a violation. Playing by the rules is meant for suckers now. Matt Painter proved it twice this past season and shoved it in our faces prior to doing it.

As Heup has shown everybody it is about scoring with adequate defense. Keep pressing the advantage on O. I cannot stand the guy, but Nate Oats has it right. Score the ball and try to get enough stops to stay in the lead while you are scoring threes and layups. it is the only way to override the control of the officials. Even Voltello has made the move. He has filled the line-up with bombers who play decent D and has an adequate pitching staff.

The way of the sports world today...

Once ZZ is done, I think all bets are off. Barring illness I can't see him leaving before he graduates. Personally, I think he's still healthy and very engaged. The remarks he made about this team leads me to think he doesn't have plans to walk away. Honestly, I think his acceptance of the portal and the success he's had has kinda tickled his fancy. I think he's embraced it as a tool. He doesn't have to "rebuild" a roster. Now he can flip one and hand pick kids who fit his style and culture. Ready made. I'd be surprised if he doesn't roll for another 3-4 years....health permitting.

This is why I don't see Barnes walking away before God instructs him to do so. Look at the emotion in that picture between Barnes and Knecht. Then see the pain from ZZ in the background. Just a shame what those corrupt officials did to such a wonderful group of young men and coaches. All for the sake of ratings and money.

I do wonder if we should strategically dial down the defense at times. You can kill yourself playing stifling defense but if that means you don’t have the legs to hit shots late in the season when it matters…is that a good thing?

I also feel like they’re already botching the search. It’s been several hours since the news broke, and they haven’t even identified their Gruden or whether their Gruden owns land in East Tennessee. Not a single plane has been tracked. No rumors about which schools they’re going to send their kids to.

Subpar effort, frankly. We may have to pick up their slack.

Prolly. Although he has been saddled with one DB coach we know who rode Heup's coattails into Knoxville. Don't know if that would have made a difference or not had he been free to pick his own guy.

But this season is the Pretty Holly peak into the abyss for Banks IMO. He has been given top assistants in all the other spots and his personal expertise is also DB's. He has four recruiting classes plus portal guys. Not much left for excuses. Major progress or buh-bye.

InVOL is on the clock...
Points per game allowed in the SEC
Georgia 16.3
Alabama 19.7
Tennessee 20.9

That is the list in order…. What does Banks have to do to get a little bit of respect?

Hey, I realize this is going to sound crazy. But how about instead of just popping in and posting random sh-t without any context, you read the thread and find out what they said. ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯ 😂
It’s a fair question bc it was very recently reported on here that she was definitely coming back… we already knew High School recruiting was not good…. Did we miss on specific transfer targets?

That’s the chess game. Obviously it worked very well this year. Can’t be mad.

@MoCo_Vol @LAVol1 im behind on the KH firing..was this in the works for a while? Because we were all under the impression it wasn’t going to happen this year…I know her record isn’t the best but what was the reasoning for the sudden change👀

I've got no "insider" knowledge. I'm just a very big fan that tries to be extremely educated with my opinions and thoughts I share.

I knew KH was going to be fired, but how quickly it happened was unexpected. Although her buyout dropping by a million yesterday explains it.

Yep, I also think Barnes can recruit the portal better than HS kids as crazy as that is to say.

But a coach with nearly 5 decades of experience in coaching that's been to so many areas has a lot of relationships and when he can tap into those folks to learn about players in the portal he seems to have an easier time finding 'his guys' than he does with the HS kids.

I bet it was planned for awhile and DW already has a good idea who he is going to hire.
