Anyone else perplexed why Heup doesn't get Nico in games at the end when game is no longer in doubt?

They've already said he's not red shifting, so why not let him get in a big environment like Saturday?
They can say that but why burn the redshirt on pointless reps with 2:00 minutes in the game?

Nico has played in two games so far. The only two for sure blow outs left are UConn and Vandy. And if those are the only two games he plays in he gets his redshirt.

There's a chance Bama, Kentucky, or Mizzou turn into a blowout, and if it does, you put him in. But right now it most likely looks like he will see action in four games, and if that's how it turns out you absolutely keep the redshirt. Even if that means letting Gaston Moore hand the ball off a few times at the end of the 4th quarter.

If he's as good as we hope, he's gone in 2 years, red shirt or not.

I'm what you'd call an optimistic realist... I want/hope we win every game, and in quite a few I can point to ways we CAN win most games, but I also live in the "believe it when I see it" world.

I wanted us to win in the Swamp and felt like had we ran the ball well and generated pressure we could have won. Didn't do either and thus we lost.

I want us to win in Tuscaloosa, but with how officiating is it's going to be a big time uphill battle. Ideally the way we win that game is repeat what we did to LSU last year and get up early and fast. Force Bama to need to make big chunk plays in the passing game while we're getting pressure without blitzing. If they want to try and run it, just limit the big chunks no big runs of 8 or more and let them milk away the clock or take chances in the passing game with no clear ability to do so in their QB.

But that game isn't as important as the A&M game in Neyland. We have to win these matchups at home and that's the next big test.

Here is the difference between us...I think we are a better program now that has a decent-excellent chance of winning against most other programs...I acknowledge the hopefulness that fact brings with it, it is good to feel that way again, but unlike the over-optimists I also see the still unoptimal roster problems we have....pretty much anybody with a real pulse can beat us, (see Florida for most recent example) and even destroy us (see South Carolina last year) on a day we don't play very well...I will EXPECT to win against anybody again when those roster issues and a couple staff issues are fixed.

We walk a knife edge now...injuries and suspensions can play havoc on our ability to win...a significant injury on OL (Coop) and LB (Pili), and Mincey and others being suspended (or whatever it was) caused a loss to Florida for example. What REALLY freaks me out is unreasonable over optimistic expectations causing the brain dead to go toxic.

You may not be one of those, but most of those idiots do not perceive or acknowledge roster issues...they just think "we are going to win" and then go off the freakin deep end when 💩 happens because the idiots did not see why it could happen...then they start questioning EVERYTHING and that toxicity bleeds over into everything.
Yeah, I know we can lose any game and why we could lose them. If we lose, I'm generally of the opinion that "well, _______ finally bit us on the a ass." I just don't focus on which issue could be our downfall, but I know they're there.

Kamal Hadden appreciation post. You'd never know it given the way he's talked about here but...

10 catches allowed on 26 targets / 38% completion percentage / 2.46 YPA / 2 INT (1 pick-six) / 0 TD / 5 PBU / 14.6 NFL QBR. Only 2 PI calls and both were against Austin Peay. Pretend those are 15 yard catches and you've got 12/26 for 3.6 YPA.

That's dominant, and if it's not apparent just how dominant, how would y'all feel if Milton had a game where he went 10/26 for 64 yards, 0 TDs, and 2 INTs with a pick six and a 14.6 QBR. How many would say, "Well Milton got a couple PI calls so it's still a good game" lol.

Among CBs with 20+ targets in the country:
1st in NFL QB Rating allowed
2nd in YPA
3rd in coverage rating (PFF)
8th in completion%

He's #1 in the SEC in every one of those categories.
Because negative perception, once earned...is a hard to change beast. Literally every pass that is caught, tackle missed and penalty called reinforces that perception.

pick a table up like this “lady” and I would be more impressed

Right before I got out of the Army, I went to talk to the Sergeant Major. I asked if there was one life lesson I could take with me that he had learned in the Army. He thought about it a minute and said, "Bourbon will not fix your problems." I nodded and said, "I get it, thanks." As I started to walk away, he added, "but, it sure is worth a shot."

Definitely. And I'm sure he and his family believe that too. Doesn't mean you haphazardly box yourself in to that.

And even if Nico lives up to the hype, it is possible NIL will reach a point in the next few years that anyone without a top 5 pick grade starts playing out their eligibility because the NIL money is worth more than their rookie deal. Not that I would predict that, but you just never know.

16/21 - 8.1 YPA - 99.3 NFL Rating against. At BYU his strengths were more in run support than coverage. His coverage stats here haven't been fantastic, but I think he's been great on the short routes / run support where we really needed help.
Thanks. It very well could have been run support where I kept seeing him involved. I just remember seeing his number a lot.

He helps, but he wasn't the reason we won, and him going there instead of here doesn't flip that game.
Their offensive scores were on a short field off a pick, and a turnover.
They got on FG off a fake punt( I think they scored on that drive, can't remember.)
They also gave up 200 yards rushing.
Pearce dominated but the difference in the game was more than one player.
They came up empty on that fake punt series. We stopped them on 4th down when we stopped Legette 1 yard short of 1st down marker.

Haven’t rewatched the whole game yet, but just from the highlights I have 2 observations:

1. James Pierce is a damn animal

2. It’s insane how many key snaps Carter and Telander played - AND on those snaps they were making plays, rather than just playing a spot and getting reps as freshmen.

We are good now but the future is bright and great. As we all know, these years and these wins aren’t to be taken for granted. Great week and time to be a Tennessee Vol. 14-1 🤠 🍊

Both show an intensity and "want to" that is rare. Appears to have the football IQ as well.

I cant argue with that, honestly if he really is the 2 million dollar kid we heard about.
Have fun and dominate college ball as long as you can.

Probably not but i think it would benefit us well. Add a new wrinkle to the offense

Wish more coaches were like Andy Reid/Shanahan
I get that. But running that means more reads.

Let Joe continue to settle in to what we’re already doing. I thought he looked pretty good. I think he’ll look even better vs A&M.

The 2nd pick was the correct read, the correct man. Just missed it. That happens.

Who cares what toxic people say on the internet? DW isn’t going to pay any attention to it…. Why should we?
Toxicity matters whether you believe it or not...it is impossible to escape it's effects in this overestimulated, impatient, ADHD afflicted world that electronic interconnection has created.
