I've never been to Jamaica. I'd guess it's similar to the Bahamas as in best experienced off the beaten path. If I can afford a big enough boat, it will be a destination for sure. The cost of the boat isn't the issue, it's the cost of keeping in South Florida. I was quoted $4500/month today in FT Lauderdale. That's not doable.
Since you've got a lot of experience with boats, maybe you can help me out...if you don't mind. I'm about to be moving to a house on Lake Lanier in a couple of weeks and am really thinking about getting a 22'-24' center console for fishing and taking the family out. I've got a good idea on what I can do when haggling on a new car, but I'm clueless on boats. Is there a reasonable percentage I should aim for below the asking price? I'm sure it depends some on the make of the boat...I'm hoping to end up with a Boston Whaler or Everglades but not stuck on them...just want something that is built to last.

What's your budget?

Get on Facebook marketplace and look for people offering an extra slip at their house. Our neighbors rent out 2 of their slips

Look into sea hunt and scouts at that length

There's a website where people list there slips. I'm definitely looking at that. I'm also looking at a smaller, towable option. I'm just not sure it will be large enough to spend several weeks on.

There are definitely some brands out there that fish and sleep bigger than their length. Had a contender years ago that was 26’ but felt like I was on a 30’ boat when offshore. Loved that boat.

Really appreciate the support from you and the VN posters. Where in the world you all find some of these supportive responses is beyond me.

Probably $50k-$70k...hopefully more towards the bottom of that range. We've still got a house to get ready to sell, so the budget will be healthier in the fall after selling our current home.
So I assume you're going used. If it's going to be used on Lanier, you could probably go with a bay boat.

I'd try Facebook market place and buy from an individual. I'm going to sell mine but it's above your budget. It's overkill for Lanier too.

I wouldn't offer any more than 20% under asking, especially to a dealer.

Don't be afraid to ask any questions or ask me about a particular boat. Happy to help a fellow Vol Fan.

They have already started in Seymour. They will continue through at least Saturday night. I am all about being a patriot and celebrating our country's heritage, but the constant noise really terrifies my dogs. We give them some stuff to chill them out and I don't mind a day or two, but a freaking week of fireworks every night makes me want to hurt people.
Now you know how your jokes make us feel.

My wife and I stayed at the half Moon resort in Montego Bay for our honeymoon in 2003. We loved it, but we went off the resort grounds one time and vowed to not do it again. It was a little rough and scary.
I had the same Jamaica experience. Resort was OK (not great, but that's not the country's fault), but wow the instant I left the resort I regretted it and never did it again. Went back on a cruise and hated it it equally as much.

There are plenty of beautiful islands in the Caribbean. I'd rather go to one where it's nice off the resort.

The experience was so bad it gave me a stutter!

Here's my want list:

Trailerable.
Outboards.
2 cabins (V berth counts)
Galley
AC
Generator
35' minimum

I'm seriously looking at the Jenneau leader 10.5 WA.
