I can't believe this is serious.

We took the tristar from the state flag - not the Titans. The tristar has been integrated into a ton of Vols stuff historically just not on uniforms. Professional and college teams across the state have used tristar logos in their stuff in the past, including the Preds and Austin Peay off the top of my head but you didn't say anything about that.

Also, we kept the true alignment of the stars from the state flag, whereas the Titans changed the alignment. The star alignment on the tristar is very specific and represents the 3 grand divisions of the state. Our new uniforms represent the state of Tennessee from Memphis to Bristol. It has nothing to do with the Titans.
The fact, then, that the 3 stars appear in more places than Waffle House, and have been appropriated by more businesses, teams, and agencies than we can name... pretty much cinches the argument for why it should be a minimal augment to our unique branding.

That's actually a respectable opinion to have and I have no problems with it. I disagree, but no qualms with the logic.

My only issue was the assertion that we took it from the Titans. That idea is illogical nd blatantly wrong.

(Also: UT has put the 'Tristar on State' logo on stuff before. Just not a football jersey. Pretty sure it's been on baseball and basketball. I know its been on university sanctioned stuff because they gave us shirts with it when I was a student and our intramural winning shirts had it.)

We get it, you hate the state of Tennessee and state pride.
No dude, I don't.

You see using the tri-star logo as a homage to the state, and having nothing to do with other teams that have may have incorporated it into their uniforms or logos.

I see the "Power T" as a bigger brand than the state flag. And around college athletics, I generally think taking cues from the state flag is something relegated to smaller schools with little or no brand. I think most people will see those jerseys and immediately think of the Titans. Remember them so to speak.

I also barely care. I think it would be cool.. real cool, if you could just admit my opinion is equally as valid as yours and get out of my ass about it.

It is the Tennessee flag. University of Tennessee is the state school. UT is at the very top of the list of who should be using the tri-star logo. Anyone else who uses it falls down the ladder below UT of being appropriate - irregardless of when they began using it.

Also. . . over easy eggs are gross.

I forget who wrote it, but in one retrospective of the 2022 season, someone said this game was the peak of that year. This game is when everything was humming at its most efficient, where we looked completely dominant and entirely deserving of our #3 ranking, and it is what propelled us to #1, albeit briefly. I tend to agree.

Pitt and Florida were those “whew,” wipe your brow games we needed to win but which were touch and go.

LSU was a dominating road performance in one of football’s most hostile venues. That was the game that convinced everyone, Tennessee fans included, that the team was for real for real.

And of course Alabama was getting the monkey off the back and ending a 15-year losing streak against our most hated opponent. Pure catharsis.

Kentucky stumbled to finish 7-6 but came into this game still ranked. The previous year’s game had been a shootout classic, so there was reason to think UK might compete, but it was a bell-to-bell Big Orange beatdown instead.

It’s not my favorite game of that year, but it’s hard for me personally to disagree that this was the peak for 2022.

Basically if we beat Bama we are 10-2 and in the playoff.
It's nice that we have some respect here. If our o-line and d-line are our strengths that usually correlates to being a really good team. Especially when you have a freak at QB. 13th is actually a little low if you have elite talent at QB and are elite on both LOS.

Keeping us around 10 does make sense because of the WR's and the secondary being question marks.

If we beat Bama we are 11-1. Not sure who other than UGA can beat us if we are good enough to beat the turds. Oklahoma having a brand new o-line against our veteran and talented d-line, with the best coach in the county, with the best edge in the country....does NOT bode well for them.

I also don't think it's that big of a deal. I get your logic of it being more or less watered down bc other entities and schools have used it and our brand being bigger. Totally get that. If they had taken off the Power T and put the tristar on the helmet then I'd be right there with you.

I personally dont see a problem with the accents or having it on the shoulder patch. But if its too big on the shoulder for your liking that's valid.

What I don't think is valid is the connection to the Titans. That's my only qualm with what you've said. But I can understand if you see that connection... bc... well... you're @Ten_Titans 🤣

Jokes aside there, it just sounded like you were saying we designed these based on the Titans uniform which is simply not true. They have similarities because they have the same inspiration. Only so much you can do with the symbolism of 3 stars and a circle. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Might as well not put the outline of the state of Tennessee on anything because other state schools do that too. Probably should take the state flag off of campus flag poles while we are at it.

It was a great game. It was the first game of being completely sold on the team. I was still waiting for the other shoe to drop going into the bama game. There was no doubt the Vols were for real after that bama win. . . even though part of me was still expecting a swift kick in the nuts by UK for believing we were the real deal in '22.

Here's the power of branding over time. Photos from two games played 58 years ago. No color, yet anyone knows who one of the teams is, while identifying their opponents (both, well known schools) from these photos would be a trivia question.

The design of the Power T has been nuanced over time, but even the young football fan who has only known games in color would still recognize that this is the University of Tennessee Volunteers.

The only reason you would throw away multiple generations of brand identification would be if the previous generations are no longer buying your product. And most of us became fans of the Vols because of the older people in our lives who were fans.

To combine this with another topic in the thread today, one of the more sophisticated criticisms of cell phone culture is that it is producing a semi-addiction to novelty. Pursuing novelty is a proven way to lose one's history, and with that, one's identity.

It's a good thing 0 generations of brand identification were thrown away today. The Power T is still on the helmet and we still wear orange and white.

Basically if we beat Bama we are 10-2 and in the playoff.

When I glance at the schedule, I see 11-1 being the ceiling and 8-4 being the absolute floor.

But at this point; 8-4 would be a disappointment, unless circumstances like the injury bug hit us.

What I like about this team the most is that we are really good in the trenches, the OL and DL. That’s where the games are won. Price and Hubbs mentioned on the pod this week that this OL may be the best we’ve had since 01 and 04. If so, this season could be special.

I think we’re firmly in that 9-3, 10-2 range.
