Heupel seemed to say that it was an up man that put his hand or finger up and that was the fair catch call, not Dee Williams' airplane wings.
That is even more ridiculous than the refs saying Dee's signal was the cause. How on earth does an up man signal have anything to do with the play unless it is a pooch kick. Just an excuse for the refs to help Alabama and screw TN. Win-win for the crooked refs.

And what exactly does that mean??
Tell him what that means Coach...

If it’s not corrupt, what is it? Just the most elaborate troll job ever?
😂

The "incompetence" champions want to insist or pretend that it is just an "accident." 😂

Wait for it: "It balances out"! 😂 As if they can show a bevy of games where the outcomes are determined by the officials "accidentally" (randomly) against Saban.

That's where they will employ the illogical tactic to look at the number of penalties in isolation😂, while deliberately ignoring the context, timing, and effect of the calls and also all of the non-calls.

Sometimes they like to add that "all fans" complain about officials. 😂 As if that has any bearing whatsoever on the clear pattern of facts displayed in the calls and non-calls and their context. Another canard and red herring. 😂

The last refuge of these folks is to simply ignore the abundant and decisive evidence we have, and insist falsely that there is a requirement that one have a complete and unquestionable account of a "backstory" before one can examine all the vividly known things in context. 😂 And needless to say they never quit asking these questions to derail the conversation.

OTOH, @Jimmy Football's point is that "incompetence" accomplishes nothing for its champions, anyway. It just pushes the question back a level to: "Then, why hasn't the league ever corrected this (wanna-be) exculpatory "incompetence" claim or defense. But Birmingham's inaction over an enormous period of time indicates that they are not averse to the particular resultant outcomes changed by alleged "incompetence" and accident. Or they would have done something about it long ago. They would have done something Saturday.

Annie Edson Taylor became the first person to take the plunge over Niagara Falls in a barrel. She was 63 years old.

In July 1901, while reading an article about the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, she learned of the growing popularity of two enormous waterfalls located on the border of upstate New York and Canada. Strapped for cash and seeking fame, Taylor came up with the perfect attention-getting stunt: She would go over Niagara Falls in a barrel.

Knocked violently from side to side by the rapids and then propelled over the edge of Horseshoe Falls, Taylor reached the shore alive, if a bit battered, around 20 minutes after her journey began. After a brief flurry of photo-ops and speaking engagements, Taylor’s fame cooled, and she was unable to make the fortune for which she had hoped. She did, however, inspire a number of copy-cat daredevils.

No one would accept that excuse in normal areas of life.

“Hey, Power Company, why is my power out 50% of the time, but my millionaire neighbors have their lights on 24/7/365? Seems fishy to me.”

“Uh, no ma’am. We’re just really bad at our jobs and the people in charge don’t seem to care. Have a good one!”

We gotta get better in the trenches. Fact we are 5-2 is testament to a down year across the board in SEC. This was a fairly pedestrian Bammer team, Same for Florida.

Its a big ask to take this OL versus that DL, and that coach, and run it for a win in Tuscaloosa, with the deck stacked. WR talent is down, markedly. We just dont have any weapons, other than Squirrel.

Defense either plays lights out. Or, is poop. Guess which one played 2nd half versus Bammer?

Horrible cover up. And the whole bit about Chattanooga was dumb.

It was Chris Fowler, but it was after the uproar over Manning not winning the Heisman, not Schiano Sunday.
Remember the espn mantra was "a defensive player has never won the Heistman"? 😂 Someone remind me of all the defensive players who have won the Heistman since that campaigning. They forgot it as soon as the results were out. Forever.

Everybody keeps saying Bama isn’t that good. Meanwhile they’re 7-1 (5-0) and will play in ATL for a what will likely be a chance to make CFP. And that FL sucks while they’re 5-2 (3-1) and we lost on the road in a hostile environment to them.

Do y’all watch other college football besides the SEC? Michigan looks like the only dominant team and some of that is from cheating lol.

Listening to Bra, there has ti be accountability. Even the punch to the face of Alabama player, how can that not be called? Missing every single hold, arm bar, hold, kick, and hold...but you can see Telander hold his arm up??
Gary said "ok.... it was signaled fair catch by the other return man, so the play is dead." The "OK" was because someone told him to say that.... probably retired referee Gene Steratore, he had been chiming in during the game. They never said Telander or someone on the front line called the fair catch. They even posted a picture of Dee on the broadcast but only after Alabama had gotten the ball back and ran a few plays. CBS was trying hard to cover it up. This was as high as Dee's hands got. The Telander posts came out the next day. 20231024_015202.jpg

There is no defending SEC officials. Period. I can’t believe that this even has to be stated in this thread.
Agreed You can thank the usual protestations and mockery by the usual suspects, rushing in (in effect) to Bama's and Sankey's defense. Here, of all places. This time no one is going to stop calling that out.

Baron tries to when he's held but he gets ignored. He usually throws his arms up in the air.
I suppose he should have fallen to the ground holding his neck and the trainers need to come out, and then ask for the docs and go to the tent. 😂

But I bet that wouldn't have worked either. But what would the network have done about showing the replay? 😂 Show it? Or just suppress the replay, as they sometimes do, as needed. Explain away what happened and cut to a commercial.

Also that would have rewarded Bama with some plays with TB off the field.

The head coach should be in the ear of the officials all night! He should advocate for his team to receive fair treatment.
It's not Heup's fault that he is being cheated. He knows from experience that Saban can rant with impunity, but that he himself would have likely been flagged. There are gifs all over of Heupel raising hell at them, to no effect.

Maybe, and I have my theories on the motives behind this stuff, but ultimately it just doesn’t matter to me. We’ve gotten a bad whistle in basically all of our games except maybe one or two, an indisputably and particularly bad whistle. It shouldn’t be tolerated by our administration or any of the others in this league on the wrong side of it, regardless of the cause.
I agree with that.

And it has been going on all year; you are absolutely correct.

Greg Sankey got a contract extension in July ..lasting to 2028.....the Chancellors and School Presidents vote on it....they shouldn't have gave him the extension if schools thinks he is that crooked...
Well, he controls scheduling, fines, sanctions, officiating, bowl assignments, etc. I suppose unless there is a known majority of schools on board in advance, it would be viewed as self destructive by most schools.

So, apparently he was doing it all day and the refs just decided when they felt like calling it.

Well now it’s obvious why that was called. Nick put it in their ear when he saw that
in the first half, and they were happy to oblige.

You know what a competent, fair-minded official says when Nick brings that up? Here ya go:

“You think an up-back is signaling a fair catch as soon as the ball is kicked? Get real, coach.”
