Recruiting Football Talk VIII

It’s every defense’s kryptonite*. Arnold is a good runner and he will probably keep several plays alive this weekend. This defense faced Milroe (who is a better runner IMO) last year and contained him pretty well.
I believe there are some defenses that play it better than others. Those Missouri defenses of recent memory come to mind, playing sound fundamental defense, Georgia, and even Clemson during their run.

But you're right, Oklahoma isn't a flaccid object, rolling over to expose their belly. This a legitimate SEC team, with an SEC defense - as the stats show. They will have equally talented players, with equal game prep.

Our 6'4, 6'5", 6'3" WR's will have to actually use that size to physically maul their opponent. TE's the same. Our 38 mph receiver will need to actually run past opposing defenders.

I think their offense will play well, at least for two quarters. Those saying the depth will play in, are likely correct.

I think Oklahoma scores 21.

But TN pulls away, in third to end up at 71.

Vols by fiddy! Y'all just thought this was BVS!

It's not the game I used in my FF thread..........but still a great memory...........

20years ago................

Was there, Section J. Florida guys behind us wept. I was wearing a drain the swamp tee. Recall the douches behind us commenting at how disrespectful the Smokey cartoon character was standing on top of the Alligator!

Then I get reminded every year, 'in that moment', one of the biggest plays in TN history. That 'Wilhoit redeemed himself in a large, large way.'😂 Are you serious Bob? The guy before you said 'No Siree, no siree.'

Even the color guy showed some emotion. Heck the guy that's not even from TN gets excited. And he's a soccer guy... Please, retire!

Yeah...not real sure I believe OU is ready for a team like us yet.

In 3 games they've failed to throw for 175 yards every week (as a team) even in the 51-3 blowout of Temple.
In 3 games they've failed to reach 400 total yards of offense once.

Defense is better, but how good is TBD

Only Houston has had over 300 total yards of offense against them, but they gave up 19 to Tulane and 12 to Houston.

The more telling stat is the combined records for the 3 teams they've beaten are 2-7

Our lowest total yards was vs NC State at 460
The most total yards our Defense has given up was 227 to Chattanooga

No one has scored an offensive TD and in 3 games a total of 6 points have been scored on the defense.

Good to be confident. But the moment you get cocky as a team, or expecting a W is moment you get beat. Very glad we have a grounded, competitive coach.

I'll add that this is a game in which there is no rule for running score up. These ass clowns have embarrassed us twice in a row.

One thing that’s getting overlooked.. Most of the players on this team have “been here before” and the moment won’t be too big. 7 is a big number but this team is on a revenge tour for 2022.. GO VOLS 🍊🍊🍊
Yes, but this is an SEC team.

It wont be NC State. I think we cover -7.5, with a 10 pt win likely. Anything above that, 14-17 pts, on road, to me means the Heup is real.

Random thoughts this morning... last time Tennessee played in Oklahoma, Heupel was their offensive coordinator and they beat us 34-10. He was fired at the end of that season. Hopefully we and he get some revenge Saturday

Also, I think the helmet communications could help negate some of the crowd effect, but I hope our team does well with the silent count and keeps false starts and silly penalties to a minimum

I think Oklahoma will try to go to the run game first to eat clock and keep our offense off the field, which plays into our strength on defense and could backfire on them if we stonewall them and get ahead by a few scores. Then they will have to pass to catch up, and our pass rushers can pin their ears back. If it works out like that I think Arnold will have a rough night.

THIS is why I care less about recruiting rankings. Recruit the best players to fit your culture and system, then retain them.

I've been wondering...why was he so under-rated? Every ability he has is pretty obvious...patience, good speed, vision, toughness and balance.

The ranking sites are goobers...they miss a lot.

I really thought he made a mistake walking on at UT............Shows what I know.

Trust me I know about unreliable airlines (allegiant). I vowed to never fly allegiant again, its been over 6 years since I’ve flown with them. I have never (knock on wood lol) had issues with spirit or frontier. When I go to the next ut game, I will try to fly with the major airlines: delta, united, sw (they compensated me nicely for the ‘22🍊 bowl debacle), or american.

My philosphy flying is to get a basic seat with no amenities. I am low maintenance when it comes to flying, regardless where I sit, we all get there the same time.
Never had issue with Spirit. Frontier cancelled a flight and paid for the family and I to stay in Costa Rica an extra night. They treated us well.

Dang...my brain just had one of those weird surreal epic memory dumps...could close my eyes and see so many things that happened in my life that year...some beautiful things, some horrifically bad things...and just a lot of everyday life things...now my eyes are leaking and I miss my mother soooo bad..😥

It is insane how something like this clip can trigger that.

I think Faulkner is great and going places, and Monken is as good as it gets. I wish both of them were still at UGA. But I also think hating Bobo is profoundly mistaken. All the guy does is produce consistently productive offenses. He sets up plays as well as anybody and is a savant at beating zone defense.

I also think talent beats scheme at the highest level. Every college OC can draw up and call great plays, but there ain’t another Brock Bowers.
What’s the excuse from the Kentucky game?
