Recruiting Football Talk VIII

As I remember it, part of the knock on him was that his HS coaches were running him into the ground and shortening his career. He was touching the ball 30-45 times every game best I remember. To me that was a stupid reason to downgrade someone's ranking for college purposes. Maybe it shortens his pro career if he gets there, but it certainly doesn't seem to have hurt him here.
Yeah that’s silly. 18-22 year old kids don’t get worn down. I remember them times. Good times. They are gone now.

He used Iowa as an example of a defense that OU might be like to give us trouble.... Did he forget that we boat raced them in Nico's first actual start and he has only gotten better since then? Pate may be right, but I think folks are really not wanting us to be as good as we think we might be. They really don't want that level of Tennessee.

It's not the game I used in my FF thread..........but still a great memory...........

20years ago................

One of my all time favorite moments…. Florida fans thought they won and were talking major sh&t to us. They left the stadium early dancing and singing thinking they had won. I would have loved to have been there when they found out that Florida lost.

I would follow the Pitt Panthers example…. They always have been able to limit the rushing attack while also limiting big plays.

I’m in the same line of thinking as Pate. I think it’s gonna come down to Nico vs Venables. I think their line is able to contain our run game, relatively speaking. I think OU is gonna make Nico try to beat them.

thing is, you can throw on this OU defense.

Also, blitzing and running all this exotic stuff is kinda risky esp when you start getting tired. You're so spread out and UT plays so fast if you dont get there its going to get ugly.

It seems like everyone has 2 views. Either we win by a little or we win by a lot.

Either way, we win.

I’m the same, I don’t think we lose, I think we lead 17-14 at half time. Tack on another touchdown late in the third and then hang on. Defense wins the game in the 4th. If only there was like, ya know, somewhere to discuss this.

If I were a cynical man I’d say this would be a good time to stop donating to NIL as UT has now made it mandatory (for game attendees) instead of voluntary.

But ultimately I’m not surprised DW is ahead of the curve here. From a money standpoint for UT athletics it makes a ton of sense.

"Several coaches in the SEC I talked to about this today disagreed with me on this, but I don't think it's a blowout. Tennessee to win, OU to cover." - Josh Pate

So you're telling me multiple coaches around the SEC think Tennessee is going to blow out OU in Norman?
IMO that can only mean they are looking at the matchups in the trenches. They know we have the OL to protect Nico and our DL is a huge mismatch vs OU's OL.

That's basically the bet I made. UT Over 16.5pts in the 1st half, -2.5 2nd qtr, -1.5 3rd qtr.

We are good at most everything. They are hardly good at anything. We come in focused and ready to handle biness... we will handle that biness.
Venables knew this game is the one that mattered...IMO he has pulled a Kirby 22, and has been preparing some stuff just for us pretty much since pre-season(blew my mind when Kirby admitted he had done that after our game)

He will throw the kitchen sink early at Nico and hope it gets him and the OL in their heads, hoping it will bog us down all game, and thus giving their offense a chance to throw some haymakers they haven't shown yet and keep it close at home.

He can hope...but that is all it is...a hope. We will see if it works...they have some hosses at all 3 levels on defense...they just don't have a lot of them, so they have to force us to go 3 and out over and over early...or their defense will be wore out quick.
