Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Here is another trend I am seeing, in addition to poor play and coaching scared in away games… we lose our cool way too easy and let the opposition get under our skin that results in stupid penalties and doing stupid things. Just like what Omar did shoving that fan… That is losing your cool under pressure. We are extremely undisciplined, and that shows up a lot in the procedure penalties we have, as well as the personal foul and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.

Worse than basically hitting a girl? It was certainly uncalled for, but I don’t know it was worse. That was Omari… guarantee the SEC jumps in on this one, fines him $1 million, and suspend him for the rest of the season. I actually do expect him to be disciplined by the coach and university… We probably won’t see him play against Florida. That will hurt as Eason is probably out for a long time too.
He threw the guy like a bowling ball into a crowd of people. Yes its worse.

He will be. When you're that big. That is just something you dont do. He could be arrested, depending.

Well, he did throw that guy into a girl.
Don’t get me wrong, I do not condone it at all! I’m sure he will not see the field against Florida at least. However, if he is levied some type of disciplinary action by anyone other than the coach and university, then it’s wrong. There’s nothing any different in the action between him and the Bama player.

This is worse than the Alabama player and it isn’t even close. Dude should’ve been arrested for that.

Both are ******.

Big O can easily claim he was defending himself. Video is 3 seconds long and all Big O would have to say is “he was running towards me, didn’t know what would happen”

To claim he should be arrested is retarded

Yeah, Arkansas is not good. I hope we don’t start trying to spin it that way. “They could be 5-0” was just Herbstreit hyping the game. They aren’t good. We played like crap.

Fix the OL. Run the offense. Nico is still young and learning to process the game speed but he also needs time to throw.
They are a competent SEC team, and it was on the road. Green surprised me with his passing. Not always consistent, but if he passes like that, he’s tough to beat.

That’s the SEC for you- if you don’t play well, you lose.

We’re not Alabama and it’s also egregious. He’ll be suspended a game at least. I’d be floored if he wasn’t.

If it was any other team you’d agree with me.

The main issue has been glaring since Josh Heupel arrived on campus. The main issue is the reason 3-3-5 has been an issue at every stop for Heupel. There is no pass protection.

Dating back to his Missouri days. Glen Elarbee has built multiple picket fence O-lines for Josh Heupel. And he continues to still have a job. Who has he developed? Genuine question. Other position coaches on this staff have shown they can develop players. Why can’t he?

Was the Bama wide receiver arrested? Was that not assault too? Don’t get me wrong, I am not justifying his actions. However, I’m comparing them to the same exact thing that happened when we rushed the field against Bama and that girl who was hammered by their player. He got absolutely zero disciplinary action by anyone for that. I fully expect Omar to not play against Florida, but I expect that disciplinary action to come from the head coach.

There are precedents and then there are Bama precedents. The Bama precedents don’t apply to us, so don’t expect it to even come up when this gets discussed by the league and its media arms.

I would 100% support him being suspended by Heup, though.

When the people who work for you are the problem and you do nothing to address it, you become the problem.

Don’t know what Lance Heard was doing for 3 weeks but he was awful last night. Boneheaded penalties that killed drives, getting beat over and over in pass protection. So much blame to go around for this loss.
Thinking too much about the money and being healthy instead of being out there and helping his team.

In any other era, I would agree 100% and realize he is a kid and move on hoping he figures it out.

But we are in a different era, and that wasn’t worth $8M or whatever his NIL deal is. I’m all for these kids making money and getting their limelight, but different standards and expectations should, and will, come with that. It is what it is.

If you’re getting paid like a professional then professional criticisms is going to come with it.
Not fair to think of it that way. He’s getting paid like college kids do now. Professional standards for professionals only. Nonetheless, he has to be way better than last night

As would I! I just do not want to see any discipline being handed down from the conference when they did nothing to Alabama player who hit a young lady in the same exact position.

One thing that is concerning to me (and can most definitely be corrected) is Heupel seems to have sort of lost his “edge”

I think we all really started to like him in ‘21 & ‘22 even with the losses, because you knew he would go down swinging. There were games in those 2 years that we could’ve made look a little closer on the scoreboard but didn’t because Heupel was going to go down swinging.

It seems like since the Alabama game last year where he went for it on a couple 4th downs and it backfired, he’s lost that edge. THAT is what I want to see more than anything, play like your defense can’t save you! We beat Alabama in 2 weeks (which I believe we can) all this will be forgotten

That's one of the most disappointing loses I've ever seen as a fan. We finally have a pretty good roster after the last 20 years of BS (we knew defense was weak in 2022). Heupel is known for explosive offenses and we've got plenty of talent on that side of the ball. You put up 14 against Arkansas? The defense definitely was off but still kept Arkansas from putting up a lot of points. The offense was bland and ineffective. Zero creativity. It's like the coaches suddenly expect us to just out-talent teams like that. Everything should be lining up for Tennessee this season but the passing game is mostly ineffective against defenses with a pulse. I don’t get it. I know Nico isn't going to be perfect and should get better, but it's beyond disappointing what we saw...and it's hard to think they'll suddenly turn it around next weekend.

This times 1 million! I never thought I would see our team lead by Heupel be conservative. I thought that in the first two years that he was here that we finally had a coach with some balls who would always keep his foot on the pedal, especially after we almost choked the Florida game away at home back in 22.
