Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Thoughts on Saturday: Offensive line was awful, Lance Heard in particular. I was shocked at how bad the o-line looked. Defense was not bad except for playing soft zone vs a backup qb in the last four minutes, we should have stacked the box. Nico was off, probably because of lack of protection, misread several blitzes and should have taken more check downs.
Arkansas did several things totally out of the character for what they have done this year. I watched several Arkansas games and Green never threw the ball like he did Saturday. there were several balls that should have been picked but Lady luck was smiling on him. The Arkansas o-line played 10x better than in any of their other games, we should have played less straight up rushing four and more eight on the line and dropping out and disguising blitzes.
Our backs are now firmly against the wall we have to beat both Alabubba and Georgia and we will find out a lot about this team. Hope they stop reading their press clippings.

they played out of their minds. Their DB's couldn't cover a middle schooler and Saturday they were blanket

Every single team HATES Tennessee, it really does make sense when they come out and play their best game of the year against us

Wow. That long throw to Thornton at the end. Look at Heard. Absolutely pathetic effort. His ass should be chewed all day long for that and he should go to the bench. What a waste of a roster spot
Heard played like a complete bust. We would have been better off with Johnson.

if you've been watching college football at all. Hell, any football.

You know that the ones crowned Heisman and Champion in September come back down to earth at some point. That's just how this sport works.

The really good ones grow from it.

We have a couple pretty good wins and one pretty bad loss. We have more opportunities to get things back on track.

Huge test this week. Hope the players erased all memory of this season so far. The hype when we came out, the sweet win over Oklahoma, the embarrassment of Arkansas.

We've seen the "everything is going great, everything just went to crap, what's gonna happen now" story hundreds of times in college football. Excited to find out what side of the line we end up on.

The one area i am not a fan of is saying this offense can't compete with the best. 2022 proved it could. The guy we miss most on this roster is Darnell Wright though.

RS Nico is not 5th year Hendon either. Hendon got benched twice on that journey. Nico is ahead of the curve, but nowhere near playoff ready at this point.
Agreed Darnell Wright was key and the seniority of HH for 2022.

Whatever we are paying this guy it’s way too much

Just watched a film breakdown and Lance Heard looks like a total liability. Our tackles are this Offense's weakness.

Poor execution on offense is the reason for UT's failures against Arkansas. That last drive to try and win the game, if executed by the players, is a W. Literally everybody messed up at some point on that last drive. The play calling was on point to bring the win; the players didn't execute.

This was Arkansas biggest game since they hosted Texas a few years ago (they won that one too)

Their QB made throws he never makes

The DBs played like they never have, and probably never will again

Our OL played below their ability

Perfect storm. Happens

He doesn’t look injured to me.

Coach Heupel’s QBs through their first 5 games being a full time starter.

Hooker (Pitt, TTU, FL, Mizz, USCjr)
- 1058 passing yards
- 13 TD / 1 Int
- 278 rushing
- 3 TDs

Milton (Virginia, AP, FL, Texas-San Antonio, USCjr)
- 1164 passing yards
- 9 TD / 3 Int
- 139 rushing
- 4 TD

Nico (Chatt, NSCT, Kent St, OU, Ark)
- 1050 passing yards
- 7 TD / 2 Int
- 134 rushing
- 1 TD

Just wanted to compare all 3 QBs that have been under Heupel. Also keep in mind two upperclassmen vs a freshman.

If Nico would’ve played like himself against Arkansas, his stats would probably be higher than Hooker’s
That's in 15 quarters for Nico. Unsure about the Hooker and Milton.

Looking at the conference favorites...

Texas sitting pretty with no losses and a laughable schedule.

UGA with 1 loss, the best loss, but a tough schedule

Bama with 1 loss, the worst loss, and question marks

Ole Miss with 1 loss, back against the wall

Mizzou with 1 loss, awaiting the inevitable second loss

Vols with 1 loss, back against the wall

LSU with 1 loss, left for dead. A&M with 1 loss, left for dead. OU with 1 loss, left for dead.

Lotta desperate and pissed teams

There are 4 commercials breaks in the 1st and 3rd quarter. Each break lasts 3:35, plus there is an additional break after the 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th quarter end. There is a postgame recap for a minute or two then more commercials before the next game or show. A short opening segment for the next game and then more commercials.

19 minutes of commercials for 15 minutes of football. . . and that's just 1 quarter. 15 mins for the 2nd & 4th quarters, a commercial break after the 2nd, a short segment after that break and then a few halftime commercial breaks during the halftime show.

About 1hour and 30 mins of commercials per game. I believe it's really probably more than that.

Fans are gonna have to do something. They're only gonna show more until they break the fans. The product sucks because of it and it absolutely effects the flow of the game for both teams and impacts the viewing experience for everyone.

If I didnt like talking with you all live during the game, I probably wouldn't even watch, at least until after halftime, so I could fast forward.

i have thought about doing the same many times but luckily this year ive got a nice enough sports bar that i can turn my attention to another game during the many commercials. Although, a few times, the entire bar cries out in agony when all 20 or so screens are playing various commercials all at once, it's happened more than should be theoretically possible lol

Backs against the wall this weekend. How do we respond? I think our defense plays lights out. Offense? No clue. If we have no trust in Nico, line 7 up and just run the ball all day. Sampson will feast. Yeah it’ll be ugly but I bet we win by 2 scores. Floridas defense ranks 96th.

Florida will be fantastic. You already know that. All 3 facets of the game.

Yeah, I didn’t want to go that in depth with it. Just surface level stuff lol

Either way, it wasn’t to bash Nico. I think it’s impressive honestly. Just shows there is another level
I didn't take it as bashing. I was just giving more insight and i'm to lazy to look up how many quarters Milton and Hooker played.

So weird we didn’t see this much at all. Also there is a film guy that showed we had people open on the final play. Nico just missed them.
I haven't seen it from behind, but there is definitely a WR in the middle of the field with space in the endzone as Nico starts to scramble. We saw it early in the NC State game- Nico doesn't look to pass much after he scrambles. He did it on the one big play to Kitselman that was called back. Needs to improve in that area.

I think if we beat one of Alabama/Georgia and win the rest, we are in the playoff

Saturday's game will set the tone for the rest of the season. Lose it, play flat, and this season will unravel. Win it, play better (I know being at home will help greatly), and things will by and large reset. Many people in the preseason thought UT could be 4-1 going into the Florida game. Not many thought the loss would be against Arkansas and in the manner it played out.

Hooker in those games I’m assuming played most of the time against Pitt, Mizz, FL, and USCjr.

So I definitely think they both played more than Nico.

We failed to do well on offense because they stuffed our run with a light box. They did it as well as UGA has. Honestly it might be rhe best since UGA. Oklahoma and NC state tried, but failed. UGA is the next team that likely could do the same. Their D line is a notch worse though. Bama has struggled in this area. USC and KY will try and we will see. Both have veteran lines. 9-3 won't be crazy if Nico and the O line don't step up.

Any time we look stupid this is usually the culprit. Our recievers are running into lots of coverage, our QB is passing or running into it.
I am still stunned by the atrocious o-line play. I kept saying this about Heard the entire game, "That is our best offensive lineman?"

The thing with Texas A&M is that they're already 3-0 in the conference. Their remaining schedule:

@Miss St
LSU
@SCjr
New Mexico State
@Auburn
Texas

They're a sneaky team that could get to the SEC championship
