Recruiting Football Talk VIII

This was Arkansas biggest game since they hosted Texas a few years ago (they won that one too)

Their QB made throws he never makes

The DBs played like they never have, and probably never will again

Our OL played below their ability

Perfect storm. Happens
When an opponent is all emotional like that you have to come out hot, bust their noses and step on their necks. Destroy their confidence!

We let them hang around and even push us around and it started feeding on itself. Then all this "playing out of their heads" crap starts perpetuating itself.

We did not put on more steam. We were not the more prepared team. The General would have kicked every @$$ on that sideline, from the opening drive all the way to Knoxville. Starting with the coaches.

I think It'll make about 5 parlays and have every single one of them hinge of the Vols game. . . except this week I'll pick UF. That should guarantee a Vols win.

Also. . . I think Vandy is on the "do not bet against" list now. If we play them the way we played Arkansas and they play how they did against Bama, we'll be in trouble. . .

At the end of the day we held Arkansas to 19pts. 19pts should never, ever be enough to beat this Vols offense. If you told me Arkansas only scored 19, I would've said we beat them by at least 17pts.

We have got to eliminate the penalties. Even with how bad we played, if we eliminate half of those self-inflicted penalties, we still win.
Vandy lost to Georgia State… on the road.

It’s important to remember that

Well, Hooker was a full time starter for us in 2021
and Milton was a full time starter in 2023

I used Hendon’s 2021 stats
Take out the Pitt game for Hooker and add whoever we played after USCjr and run the numbers for Hooker again. Hendon didn't come into that Pitt game until the 2nd Q.

Think my BVS is still flaring up, but anybody else a little put off by Heupels demeanor during the press conference today? Just seems weird to be so laid back, joking, and non bothered by what happened. Not saying he has to be super pissed or going off, but show some passion. A team will take on the personality of their coaches over time.

Swait gave NICO a free pass in this piece blaming pass protection. For me, it's both. There were open receivers and he just didn't find them. And, you can make up for some O-line issues with scrambling and passing.
I do agree it's on both. I will say the vast majority of it is on the o-line though. Nico was seeing ghosts out there. With the Sampson miss his internal clock was ticking down big time based on the pressure he experienced all game. The Arkansas d-line whipped up on us, they were getting pressure with 3 or 4 all game.

Imagine if we’d had a TO here and hadn’t just burned one for no reason. Or if we had 30 seconds on the clock like we should’ve. Nico may have been more willing to look into the flats. Walk in TD for Sampson.

To be fair to Nico, he sees the LBer follow Samp to the flats. No way he thinks the LBer would drop his assignment and run back towards the middle of the field. Not sure what that kid was doing.

Squirrel fields that punt and we are probably not discussing an L today.
There were quite a few situations where if we make a play(s), not discussing an L this morning. For me, the second to last drive where we didn't even get one first down was huge. Make a drive there and Arkansas likely doesn't have time to score (we were up 1).

And we dropped two passes. Not easy catches, but hit both in the hands. There were just way too many mistakes across the board, from every unit on offense.

Just make plays. We lost to an inferior team.

Stupid penalties, boneheaded running into punter, hold them on last drive. That simple.
