Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Those aren’t bad numbers for Bru. That’s about 65 yards a game and not taking into account the impact he has as a blocker.
I think I was just mad because I was looking at past WRs and noticed Javonta Payton had more TDs in a single season for us (6) than Bru and Squirrel do combined in their WHOLE careers.

Just overreacting, that’s all.

Now that my nerves are calm and my brain is thinking more clearly, historically speaking we are a bad team when we play Florida. Even some of our best teams played ugly against them and, most of the time, couldn’t make it over the finish line. Last night, we fought till the last man and won it, which is something in my 34 years of living I can’t say I see a lot of from a TN team facing off against Florida. Is Nico playing to his potential? No, not at all. But a win like that, playing how he did that final drive in OT shows me that he’s growing. It’s easy for all of us to say “he’s a 5-star making $8 million, he should be throwing dimes all night and passing for 450+ yards!” But unfortunately this isn’t NCAA ‘24, it’s real life. And in real life, a 19 year old playing his 6th game against a rival that brings a different type of pressure, it’s expected to see a rusty performance. However, week by week we are seeing improvements, and that’s all I care about. The future is bright and last night, this team made the right plays when it mattered most against a squad we normally don’t find a way to win against. I’ll take that any day of the week!

Go Vols, bring on Bama!

I love this win over Florida.

When Fulmer took over as head coach for a full season in 1993, it took him 6 years to beat Florida even once. 9 years to beat them twice.

Heup beat Florida in his 2nd year and has beaten FL twice in 4 years.

You can say it wasn't pretty all you want; I like this better.

Plus, Fulmer took over from Majors, who had started with roughly nothing and built the program back into a winner, which was Fulmer's base. Heupel took over a situation worse than Dooley did. And is still being shorted recruits every season.
i'm not a Fulmer fan but Fulmer had to coach against some great Florida teams coached by Spurrier. Heupel has not faced such good Florida teams but mediocre FLA teams coached by second rate coaches

WRs have been wide *** open for long TDs.

Just like late Q4 vs Arky, a play that could have won us the game.

Nico has to give his guys a chance and not overthrow.
Are you talking about the pass where the DB reached out and held Nimrod then let go to make him half a step slower and want called for anything?. Which of course was how far away the ball was from Nimrod?

Man I’m glad that Florida week is over. I hate how we play against them. Frustrating.

Was fun being on campus even though didn’t buy any tickets. Was disappointed they took down the big screen in Volunteer Village right before kickoff. Was sure I’ve seen folks sit out there and watch the whole game. We had to be nomads and find a tailgate. Was fun though.

We can beat Bama. This defense is very good. Gotta score 28 I think.

Maybe unpopular opinion: I thought the play calling was much better last night. You saw them trying to do different things like rolling Nico out. We also schemed men open down field which we didn’t see in the Arkansas game.

Like I said last night, IF we start executing Bama is absolutely beatable
I'm not saying this to disagree with your point, because I agree but men were open downfield in the Arkansas game too. Not as many, but they were there. Whether because of him or his OL, idk but he is just not hitting them.

I posted this in the game thread too. I don't remember what happened in November last season.

0 holding penalties called so far this year in SEC play. ZERO! And only 2 last season.

🤨
Statistically impossible. It really underlines exactly how nasty this defense is. They are being held on most every play.
