Recruiting Football Talk VIII

It’s not that SEC Nation has input on the CFP ranking. But narratives matter. If we do lose to Georgia, narratives will be what get teams in and out of the playoff. Very clear now that ESPN is already pushing the narrative that Alabama is actually better than us.

I had hope I would be wrong. I thought head to head would matter more and figured the better our win against Alabama looks the better it is for our playoff hopes. But it’s clear that was wrong, and I shouldn’t have hoped Bama would beat LSU.

We just have to take care of business next week so narratives don’t matter.
I wouldn’t look at SEC narratives I would focus on the idea that the Big ten thinks they will get 4 teams in…I don’t see that being possible based on SOS

Well they did just kill LSU at LSU. They also beat UGA. Besides Bama, who have we beat?

Two wins against good teams
We have one.

Here’s the records for the teams we’ve played.
Vols: 37-48
Bama: 44-41

We squeeze by mediocre teams because of defense. If the offense would’ve taken care of business we would be having a different convo. Reality is, if our defense wasn’t this good our record would probably be around 4-4.

Also, when the announcer last night says, “Miss St averages more points in the SEC than UTs offense does”, that’s an issue

I just want to win out so I can sit back and not get worked up when the other conferences rig games like BYU (or Miami) to try and get more of their teams in the playoffs. If we can win out, hell I’ll pull for other conference few to get more in so we don’t have to play SEC in the playoffs.
I think only the Big 12 and ACC champions will make it in. So BYU looks like they may win the Big 12, and the ACC will be between Miami and SMU. Big 10 will probably have Oregon, Ohio State, Penn State, and Indiana in. Boise State looking like they'll get the G5 spot. ND currently in, but that could change. SEC gets four in IMO. IF ND falters, the committee has to choose between taking a fifth SEC team or taking a second ACC team.

How would Ohio state and Indiana both be in? That makes no sense…why is that not considered an elimination game 🤣🤣🤣

Not the ideal game to be the walking wounded headed into Athens. They are gonna be like sharks after blood with that beat down from Ole Piss. Kirby will do everything in his power to have them on another level this week.

I never trust Heupel with injury news and don’t think Nico will actually play. Their DL gonna feast on our OL, with or without Nico. With our porous OL and the DL who can’t stop the run the last two games my BVS has flared back up.

Sorry fellas, throw me into the river because I don’t see us coming out of Athens with a dub and think our playoff hunt ends there unfortunately. They will look for the smallest of cracks in us to knock us out of CFP contention.

It was always going to be difficult to win in Athens even with a healthy team. Now that Nico is in question it’s even more difficult. Fortunately Beck is struggling and we have a great defense. We have a shot if Nico is healthy. If Nico can’t go 100% be prepared to get screwed by the playoff committee. They’ve already set that precedent.

Indiana is College Football's "Cinderella story", Indiana gets in at 11-1 no matter if others like it or not.

Same goes for Notre Dame as long as they win out.
Indiana: You're prolly right.

Notre Dame is college football's perennial "charity case." For the record, CFP is saying that a bad loss doesn't count this year?

If Indiana loses, they'll only have one loss. If Ohio State loses, they'll only have two losses. It's not an elimination game. Both likely make the playoffs.

Yes currently. If SMU wins out it will be Clemson and them (if Clemson wins out). Which means the committee will likely give Miami an at-large bid and likely host a 1st round game. They’ll probably still get beat though lol
I'm not convinced ACC gets more than one team in, unless ND falters and they take their place.

It’s only if he can’t go during playoff time. If he were ruled out the rest of the season, yes it would matter. If he HAD to miss a game, it wouldn’t matter much as long as the game is competitive (better to win outright though).

Against South Carolina in 2019, they've won 44 straight at home since then.
We didn’t have the defense in 2022. As much as I loved our 2022 team, our current team is tougher and more physical which bodes well for us. Alabama (whenever they played UGA) was the only team that was probably more physical than them during their current success
