Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Immediate thoughts on the upcoming Georgia game:
1) this goes without saying, but we need Nico to be ready to go.

2) have to survive the early storm. The building will be electric. The atmosphere will out Oklahoma and Arkansas to shame. Georgia will be desperate and playing with its hair on fire. Can’t let the environment and Georgia’s early adrenaline surge rattle us in the early going.

3) defensive line and linebackers have to defend the run. Georgia doesn’t possess a strong running offense. We will be able to rush the passer. Beck is turnover prone when pressured. Can’t let this be a game where we give a struggling quarterback a get out of jail free card by letting the run game beat us.

4) big plays. For all the flaws they have, Georgia is still a good team with a really good defense. It won’t be easy to drive the ball methodically against them. Need to capitalize on the big pass plays when they’re open.

I honestly need to see us perform well in a truly hostile environment for me to believe we can do it. Too many road flops the last few seasons. However, if we just don’t beat ourselves and do the little things right, we’re plenty good enough to win this one.
Yeah, our guys are going to have to realize that we (our players) control the crowd, not the other way around. Execute, execute, execute. Take them out of the game. It's possible. I have been there to see that crowd go mute with my own eyes. Be more physical than Georgia. Break Georgia. See that look on their players' faces when they realize we (I mean our players) are taking their place in the playoffs and there is nothing they can do to stop it.

Man, I see people pull the pile every week and never see it flagged. Even the resident “rules expert” on the broadcast said, “Yeah…I wouldn’t have called that.”
I saw it immediately when heard did it, but I haven't seen it otherwise in years of watching. He did it all alone and fitca long long time. It really doesn't happen that often.

You need to behind the runner pushing, that is legal, but pulling the runner isn't.
Again, I see that routinely, it never gets called.

Do you guys really think Lance Heard is the only offensive player that’s ever tried to move a scrum from the wrong side?

No, but pulling the runner when it is just Heard and the back is too obvious.
Again, even ESPN’s resident official on the broadcast said he wouldn’t have flagged it.

He definitely committed a penalty, but my problem is always the selective enforcement.

Agreed, officiating is wildly inconsistent.
I'm older than most people on here and it used to get called more often...decades ago.
