Recruiting Football Talk VIII

To me there needs to be a black and white set of criteria for entrance.

Otherwise, I could see a team throwing a game to miss conference game. Kiffing is a schister.

If Indiana loses to Ohio state they will still be in the top 10. That’s the issue I have.

Yeah, the BIG10 has set this up with their terrible conference scheduling to allow 4 teams to get in. The real question is if Indiana beats Ohio State will they keep a 2 loss Buckeye team in when both losses would be to the 2 undefeated teams playing in their conference championship?

I'd honestly rather see Indiana in than Penn State... we know James Franklin is a pretender his record against top 15 teams shows us they can't compete.

Easier way to solve everything.
5 P5 conferences. Top 2 seeds play conf champ game as the first round of the playoffs. Then the 2 highest G5 teams play. Re seed everyone after the first round and go from there. Anything else is too subjective.

Honestly I think the smartest solution is a bit of policy.

Max conference teams limit (I think 16 is plenty)
Minimum in conference games required (16 team conference ya play 9, 14 team you play 8, 12 team you play 7, etc.) You basically play half your conference +1
At least 1 P4 OOC game for every P4 conference team

I'd also just eliminate conference championship games. We've had formulas in place to hand out regular season titles to basketball for decades, there's no great advantage to conference championship games in football other than allowing an upset and a team that didn't have a great regular season to get an auto bid they really don't deserve.

a 10-2 UT has a chance of being in the playoffs, and if you’re in you have a chance to win a Championship.

Absolutely 0 chances of a 10-2 UT winning a championship with the BCS
Yes, no way UT would get in this year at 10-2, but LSU won the BCS with 2 losses. Possibly the year they beat UT in the SEC Championship.

OMGosh I hope so...if we don't the powers that be are going to screw us over.

I hate the SEC, but I hate all these other conferences with their soft azz teams that we would beat the total 💩 out of that are going to make the playoffs over us even more.

We simply have to win...no matter who the QB is.

I really hope you are right...because objectively I don't see it happening at Athens...I think we take em on a neutral field or at home.
We are going to handle Georgia Saturday and Bowl Cut knows it. We got a preview in the Ole Miss game. They play a similar style of football only we are better at it. There is really very little they can do about their offensive line. Ratledge had tightrope surgery and the dog pound points to Tua coming back from it. There is a world of difference between the stress and offensive lineman puts on their ankle and a qb does. He looked terrible last week, he was as mobile as a Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robot.

UT - 52
Ole Miss - 14

UT opened an early 21-0 lead, scoring three unanswered touchdowns in the first quarter.

Tyler Bray had two touchdown passes in the frame and Eric Gordon returned an interception 46 yards for a score.

From there the Vols would never look back in what would be Dooley’s signature win in his brief tenure in the program, which did not last three full seasons. It was his only league win over an opponent other than Kentucky or Vanderbilt.

Tennessee, which led 31-14 at halftime, posted a dominant performance.

Bray went 19-of-34 for 323 yards and three touchdowns.

Tauren Poole ran for two touchdowns and Prentiss Wagner returned an interception for a touchdown. Justin Hunter had a pair of scoring receptions in the contest and Denarius Moore also caught a touchdown pass.

Imagine getting over a concussion and you have to play a night game in Athens. Screaming fans and piercing speakers sure won't help. Flashing and strobing lights in darkness certainly won't help.

You know Kirby is going to have them flashing the lights on and off as much as possible, and probably have speakers behind our bench pointed at the team. He'll do whatever it takes.

Bad spot for Nico. I know he's going to tough it out but he might finish the game cross-eyed and deaf

I’m not denying how our defense has played…I will never deny that. Again, I’m trying to have a middle approach as to why we would be left off IF we lose.

Take a step back for a second and honestly ask yourself…is our defense good enough to beat the top 12 teams in back to back to back games? I can’t answer that, because we haven’t been tested enough other than Bama.

Could our offense? I’m going to say no because of how inconsistent we’ve been.

What if one game our defense doesn’t show up against one of the top teams, does our offense win us a game?

We’ve played one top 25 offense (Arkansas) and lost. They are 5th in total yards. The only other top offense we have played is Bama and they are 35th in total yards.

Teams in playoffs and where they rank in total yards per game:
OSU: Top 15
Oregon: Top 15
Indiana: Top 20
Texas: Top 10
Penn St: Top 25
Miami: Top 3
Bama: Like 35
Ole Miss: Top 3
UGA: Meh
BYU: Meh
ND: Meh

Like I keep saying peepaw, let’s just beat UGA and put it all to rest. UGA is around 50th or so in yards per game.

If Nico plays, we win. I think he will have a great game against that defense which in turn will give our defense plenty of time to rest. I think our defense will look strong all game due to getting some breathers.

Vols: 27
UGA: 20

See you in the playoffs.
Yards per game is practically a meaningless stat. Point allowed, redzone efficiency, and 3rd down efficiency are far more telling if your talking stats. Tennessee I didn't look it up but I will bet is at the top in all three.

We'll just have to disagree. Mississippi State is who they are a 2-8 football team with one of their wins over Massachusetts and the other over Eastern Kentucky.
Georgia only beat them by 10 in Athens…they are an improving team. Just don’t know how to win yet. I am gonna guess they take a jump next year. We probably won’t be too enthused having to play them in Starkville unless it’s early in the year.

They should make the criteria and expand or reduce the playoffs size each year based on the teams that meet the eligibility requirements.

Tate is not getting on the balls of his feet at all. He is playing flat footed. To be honest Ole Miss has been more successful passing than us. I believe we can and will win, but i also believe this will be much much tighter than the Ole Miss affair. 3 main reasons.

Gaston (good player, but tough 1st start)
Road Game (not our strength)
Elimination Game (Kirby has been excellent in bounce backs. Look at Texas)
