Recruiting Football Talk VIII

They gave Josh Heupel all the fodder he needs for this weekend.

I’m tired of acting scared of uga. “Oh no, don’t make them mad or they might really take us behind the woodshed”. Time for teams to start worrying about them Vols

No kidding lol. What ammo does Smart have to motivate? Everybody who’s anybody is picking us to lose this weekend and judging by the committee’s choices they think so as well. We are 10.5pt dogs for goodness sake Vegas thinks we’re going to get stomped.

My concern with Nico is that even if he clears protocol on Friday, one normal but hard hit Saturday could put him out for a couple weeks. You just don't know. It all depends on the severity of the initial concussion, and I've heard mixed reports on how bad it was.
My concern is, if he starts, that Kirby will put a bounty on him to maliciously hit him in the head. He is dirty and I guarantee he would do it.

The stats all say UT should win. . . the only thing that says we shouldn't is UGA's home win-streak and performance after a loss. . .
UGA is not a team who bounces back after a loss. People only assume that because that is how Alabama was for the reign of their dynasty. And now ever since Georgia has become the favorites in the SEC, it's like they have just been given that assumption. from 2021 to 2023 the years when Georgia was most dominant and won two national titles, the only two losses they had were to Alabama. I mean they haven't even lost enough games for people to say they are this supposedly scary team after a loss. That was the narrative the media used this year when they almost lost to Kentucky -thinking UGA will come out swinging verse Alabama and then they got obliterated by Alabama.

Kirby is going to make Nico's life a living hell if Nico is not 110%

He will inform his players to hit Nico on every single play -- even late. He will have the stadium speakers cranked, he will have the stadium light show going crazy like a crackhead with a light switch.

The only advantage I could see to that is if Nico starts and Kirby wants to bring 1-4 extra rushers to hit Nico as much as possible, to lean into that and kill them with quick passes over the middle.
Personally I think Heup is comfortable starting GM and I still think we win with him starting, he just needs to go in and take care of the football. GM really knows this offense well and us winning is not really dependant on us lighting up the scoreboard. Nico is a capable of making two or three passes a game that GM probably can't make. He can run everything we do. Inside zone, passes to the flat, shots over the middle to the slot, and down the field to the wides.
With or without Nico, WGWTFA.

Honestly the OL is my biggest question mark for this game.

I am HOPING they play up like they did against Bama. That game we ran for 214 yards and 5.0 ypc.

We've had 2 very good passing games the last two weeks, and had Nico played the 2nd half healthy Mississippi State would have been an even bigger yardage game.

We ran for 4.2 YPC in both games...which is good, but Mississippi State is the worst rushing defense in conference and has averaged giving up 5.2 YPC...so I feel like the OL didn't perform as well as they should have against what's the worst defense they have faced in SEC play.

All things considered we're trending in the right direction on O since losing at Arkansas.. scored 23 on Florida and had 300+ yards, then 24 on Bama and 408 yards, 28 against Mildcats and 477 yards, 33 against Miss State and 452 yards (in a 2nd half where we basically packed it in to run the clock out and get the game over).

Defense has also held every opponent since Arkansas under 20 points, under 375 total yards and recorded at least 2 turnovers in every game despite the running success of the Cats & Dogs neither ran for 200 yards or 5 ypc.

Georgia has been inconsistent all year so really not sure how they are trending. They've turned it over at least twice in their last four games. And the two tempo teams they faced Miss State & Ole Miss both put up 28 or more points and 380 or more total yards on them.
I think I saw both Spraggins and Karic leave last game. Don’t know if injured or just being rested.
Will be interesting to see if either is on injury report tonight.
Of course, also looking to see what is said about Nico, Thornton, West, Bishop.

I wouldn't call a 10 point spread thinking we'll get stomped. That would roughly translate to Georgia as a 3 or 4 point favorite in Knoxville. Plenty of 10 point underdogs win outright.

Therefore...hammer the Vols ML. (I might actually take Georgia ML and arb it with Vols ML thinking that the line will keep moving towards Georgia.)

Edit: Nvm on the arbitrage...Georgia was only like -300 this morning iirc and they're at -400 now. Oh well.

Has Josh Heupel met your expectations for the time he's been here?
It doesn’t get talked about enough nationally what Heupel has done for this program. I remember hearing and believing the narrative that it would take 5 years just to be competitive in the SEC. He has beaten Florida twice, beaten Alabama twice, had us on the verge of making the playoffs two times now, and ranked as high as number one. All in 4 seasons. We have the right coach, finally.
