No one knows. It's a defect in the system but the championship games are giantic moneymakers for the conferences. Even a championship loser with it's 2rd loss, if they got in, would play one more game than every other team and be the only team without a bye. Same for a loser with a 1st loss.Question is, if a loss in Championship is your 3rd loss, what happens?
There's a few individuals clamoring for 5 SEC teams, while I clamor for just one SEC team to make it into the CFP. That would be the Tennessee Volunteers and screw the rest of the SEC.No one knows. Even a championship loser with it's 2rd loss, if they got in, would play one more game than every other team and be the only team without a bye. Same for a loser with a 1st loss. There is also the chance that the winner would have to beat the loser for a second time in the same playoff seriea; the loser thus becoming the only team with a double-elimination privilege.
Some speculate that the SEC and Big 10 will push for conference title game losers to make the playoffs to avoid calls to end the games. I think the Big 10 surely will, they don't have the depth to get the four teams they are bogusly promoting, much a fifth on the bench.
I myself don't really care about the team we eliminate in Athens.
Committee won't give Vols any respect for beating Vandy but will consider Bama's loss to Vandy a good loss. When Tennessee wins Saturday that will assure them of a spot in CFP playoffs unless a slip up vs Vanderbilt happens. By chance Tennessee loses to Georgia it will be a uphill battle, the Committee isn't going to respect kicking the **** out if a 2-8 UTEP team and a 6-5 Vanderbilt team.

Tennessee vs The WorldI feel ya, 52!
OTOH, it is a dilemma. A bunch of teams from our league winning playoff games might advance one of our bubble teams in the future and one year that could be us. And it would almost surely increase our strength of schedule metric next year, which helps us.
That said, F them all. F Everybody but us.
At the same time, Bama's loss to Vandy would still be a "good" loss. And Bama's loss to us would still be committee-impressing "qualifying" win. (I see Aesius already nail this.)When Tennessee wins Saturday that will assure them of a spot in CFP playoffs unless a slip up vs Vanderbilt happens. As for Vandy, we are sht stomping those jerks. We're not losing at Vandy like the weak-ass Bama did. When Tennessee wins Saturday that will assure them of a spot in CFP playoffs unless a slip up vs Vanderbilt happens. I love CBs and am so happy that we have great corners. It's been way way too long. I hope our recruiting keeps rolling. TEs, too. I just saying I like to watch great corners do their thing out on their island.Very complimentary of the corners and tight ends. Spoke over and over again about he'd like to hear how they are coaching these tight ends. Pretty cool considering the heat Abelin drew and how little time he's had with some.
So I see that Knecht once again proved he's better than Edey last night
If this had happened 20 years later during the social media era, it would be one of the most memorable plays/college football moments of all time (it already is for Tennessee fans but isn't super well-known outside of this fanbase).November 14, 1998
UT - 28
Arkansas - 24
The #10 Arkansas Razorbacks came to Knoxville to face the #1 ranked Vols. Arkansas raced out to a 21-10 halftime lead, that stunned the 106,000 fans. Traded field goals and a Tee Martin td run made the score 24-20.
For twelve minutes, neither team could score. Deon Grant blocked a FG attempt, but UT couldn’t muster points. With 2:54 seconds left, Arkansas attempted a punt, but a high snap led to a safety. Down two, UT couldn’t move the ball and turned the ball over on downs with less than 2 minuets left. Then.....the miracle happened. Clint Stoerner stumbled, then laid the ball on the ground, allowing Billy Ratliff to recover the ball on the Hogs 43 yrd line. Travis Henry took over, running 5 straight times and scoring with 31 seconds left, giving the Vols a 28-24 victory. Henry finished with 32 carries for 197 yrds and 1 huge touchdown!
