Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Mills had a great game. Great receiver.
Wow, put my way back machine in full blast mode on 3 fronts.

Could show you the spot in my best bud’s living room I listened to the game. Sadly lost him a couple of months back. Lifelong friends from a distance. Hard to explain.

His dad and Mooney were big buds too. I never met the man but he supplied GOLD tickets to the ski lodge in Gatlinburg good for EVERYTHING but food and drink for four. They were payback for frequent ski reports on WKGN in lieu of cash. Probably 5 trips. I was horrible, always damp and bruised but no broken bones.

Shared before, Dewey and I were once teammates. Full disclosure, he played his last summer on our church league softball team. I was about 14, a horrible athlete, but dad had me sign a contract for years since it was a 10 man mandatory league at the old Winona fields. Dewey played all over, I was THE FI (forfeit insurance) in case they came up short or started with 10 but suffered an injury or ejection. Played in 3 games instead of just manning the dugout consuming Zero and Clark candy bars. Assigned short field with instructions to make sure I did not hinder anyone else from getting to the ball. Did field a few grounders and returned them to 2nd base. Was not good in LL either and got out during 13 YO league. Bats were swing restricted if you catch my drift. Did get several walks and scored the winning walk off run once when a liner rolled to about 450 feet in the back to back OF configuration there.

Part of what I believe to be a top 10 all time blessed VOL childhood that commenced 73 years ago just a few miles down Kingston Pike from the strip.

I have a friend who has had four failed marriages. They have all ended in a messy divorce. He is currently engaged to another lady and is planning on marrying her. He has decided that he is not going to let her know about the previous four marriages so as not to bring any negative energy. I think it is very wise that he has decided to please the fifth.
My uncle‘s high school sweetheart moved back to the area which he lived when they were around 50 years old. They were both single at the time and ended up getting married. Was great for a few years and then he suspected she was cheating on him. He started doing some digging and turns out she was. Also she had been married 10+ times unbeknownst to him. He had no reason not to trust her when she moved back but she turned out not to be the person he knew before.

He must really like the taste of wedding cake

If you made me guess the first Vols basketball player to sign a Sketchers deal. I am calling Fulkerson. Sketchers will always be hip but less well made New Balances to me.

Funny story I recently told my kids. Growing up in the 90's we did have enough money to buy nice shoes. So, once per year I got a new pair, usually right before school started. Momma or Mawmaw always made me get the cheapest pair Wal*Mart had, and that happened to be Sketchers. They were not cool. I got made fun of a lot, but it didn't bother me. I already knew life was more than money, and Iiked to joke around. It's funny to me that they are somehow cool now, but in the 90's they weren't. Weird how fashion trends go
