Recruiting Football Talk VIII

This week:

> smoke UTEP, make Nico look hot again like early this season. We can't just win by 20 or something. We have to have a classic Heupel offensive showcase.
> Ohio State needs to blow Indiana off the field.
> Florida over Ole Miss would solve a lot for us
> Penn State losing to Minnesota would reframe how people feel about PSU, I think

> I think that we want Miami to win out and secure the ACC's auto-bid, leaving no ACC at-large lingering.

> Big 12: It would almost be better for Colorado to win out and BYU to lose 1-2 more? Same thing with the ACC logic above. We just need 1 team the CFP can love from Big12. If Colorado is hanging around, and starts to build some buzz, the committee will toss them in. Non-football fans will tune in in droves and the CFP knows that.

When South Carolina destroys Clemson, that will take care of any 2nd bid hopes for the ACC

True I forgot about SMU. Don’t think they can beat Miami though.
AP #13 SMU 6-0 in conference, 9-1 overall:
11/23 at UVA
11/30 vs Cal

AP #11 Miami 5-1 in conference, 9-1 overall:
11/23 vs WF
11/30 at Syracuse

AP #17 Clemson 7-1 in conference, 8-2 overall:
11/23 vs The Citadel
11/30 vs South Carolina

Need SMU to lose at UVA or vs Cal, then Clemson to lose vs SC, Miami to win out and win the ACC

5-5 Florida isn't a better win than 6-4 LSU now if Florida upsets Ole Miss and handles FSU to finish the season... them at 7-5 it becomes a much closer debate.

Wild to think we're guaranteed to make the playoffs if we win out and Florida does too.
It’s wild to think LSU is considered a “big win” when they are not even ranked but here we are, and I never once implied we were guaranteed anything

Yeah, I love Heupel...and want him here for another decade plus if his "floor" is 8 or 9 wins when the QB is inexperienced or not great.

But man...seeing 2022 offense and then having this 2024 defense it's soooo frustrating but also exciting to know we've not touched our "ceiling" under Heupel yet.
This is why it will always be amazing to me HH5 wasn’t the Heisman, let alone a finalist.

You do realize the 2022 offense had 4 starters currently in the NFL (5 if you count Milton) all of whom were juniors or seniors. The 2024 offense doesn’t have that level of experienced talent. Can they get there when jr/sr, who knows but looking forward to it.

At vocals?!?!? Hell no. Keith Whitley has one of the most pure, perfect voices of all time.
All I saw was some nonsense about who's better than who, not about vocals.

That's why I took it upon myself to say Chris Ledoux is better than anyone of these dudes.

I'll agree, Waylon Jennings is better than all of them.

I'm not sure if you're trolling or what. I never said it was a big win, just that it was their best win and that means at the time the two teams faced off it was the highest ranked team on their schedule, hope this helps.

I was saying we're guaranteed to make the playoffs if we finish 10-2 and Florida wins out (because they'd have to beat Ole Miss to do it), which eliminates the only other SEC team with 2 losses that could bump us from the playoffs.

...I think we need Vandy to beat LSU too. That might put them back in the Top 25 for our game, which would be helpful. To other posters' point, it could de-value the "big LSU win" that others are touting.

Definitely need Notre Dame to lose one of the next 2
I cant believe ND its thought of so highly after losing to NIU. That loss should put them at the end of the line for playoff consideration. . . I shouldn't be surprised, ND is always given a free pass.

UT - 59
Kentucky - 20

Travis Henry ran for 139 yards and three touchdowns and set a school rushing record as Tennessee beat Kentucky 59-20 in his final game at Neyland Stadium. Casey Clausen finished 19-of-24 for 362 yards and four touchdown passes.

Henry surpassed James Stewart's 2,890 career rushing yards to become Tennessee's career rushing leader with 2,894 yards. Henry's 14-yard run in the fourth quarter gave him the record, and started a celebration on the sidelines. Tennessee had to call a timeout as the Jumbtron showed highlights of Henry's career.

Former Tennessee coach Johnny Majors, who was fired and replaced by Phillip Fulmer in 1992, returned to Neyland Stadium for the first time. He was honored with his 1985, 1989 and 1990 SEC championship teams before the game started.

Agreed, sucks he missed that last game to stat pad... and honestly I think had we beaten SC even with him going down he finishes as a finalist.

He ended up 5th in voting though.
He wasn’t in NY so he never had a chance. They thought it was all scheme. The evidence is showing it in fact was not

The committee would love to include ND and PSU as traditional large-market brands. The playoff was made to get PSU eyeballs ($). Texas is another that will have to be pried from the committee's hands.

Colorado is a new one that will increase viewership (revenue) tremendously.

Not sure why everything I'm saying today people are trying to argue...

Edit: Just realized you misread my last post. I was saying 2022 offense = peak so far, 2024 Defense = peak... we've not had a season yet where both O & D were at their best... lots of meat left on the bone for Heupel & company to be even better.
