Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Possible. Not a guarantee. Any good safeties will be pursued by everyone as well. JMO, but I like Shady's long term potential. Acting like it's no big loss is silly. The coaches obviously wanted him. It's also not a curse at all the coaches and demand their heads moment either.

We did not lose this kid because of anything we did or didn’t do. Somebody, likely the gators, threw enough money at the kid that he decided that was more important than sticking with his commitment.
Time will tell how much of a loss this was.
Hand wringing and belly aching do nothing but cause belly aches. 😎
In the meantime, have faith in the coaches and our recruiting process. Recruiting is not for the faint of heart in this day and age for sure.
We’re just in year four and our recruiting evaluation and approach seems to be working out pretty well

Do we need a WR from the portal next year? If so, would it be for depth purposes?

Ideally we have Brazzell, Squirrel, and MM starting with Webb/Leacock, Staley, and Nimrod as the 2s.

Didn’t realize watching it but Mike Matthews is wiiiiiide open at the top. Doesn’t pout. Comes and makes a block.

Was half waiting for a flag to come out on a crackback or whatever type of block 😅

When a dude is a good 20 yards away from the play, probably not risk it eh. And def don't pull a Campbell shoooweee 😅

Sampson has a

I mean, those are the arbitrary risk/rewards of any tournament, with the way seedings work.

All I'd have done is NO guaranteed 1-4 spots and byes.

Most important to me is no guaranteed 1-4 spots going to the 4 highest ranked conference champs. A guaranteed spot in the playoff is MORE THAN ENOUGH.

If they're one of the 4 best, then let them earn it. But 3-loss Clemson, coming off a loss, potentially being seeded "top 4 WITH A BYE" is 100% patently absurd. They're not even going to be ranked top 15 this week!!! Same goes for Boise St...or if Boise loses, then ~top 15 Arizona St/Big 12 winner gets this BS seed.

I'd do away with byes too, but that's secondary and would require we move to 8/16 teams, which I'm down for long-term. But the top-4 seeding guarantees is absolutely AWFUL and can be done away with IMMEDIATELY. This year alone should be enough to show how dumb it is. I can't think of another sport that comes close to this level of stupidity.
And that’s the problem with the current format it makes no sense. There’s no tournament in any sport that is set up like this. I mean as it stands right now getting a 5th seed is a far easier path to the Championship than a 1st… heck I’d rather get an 11th or 12th seed than a 1st seed right now. 11th or 12th seed and you get to play ND or Psu and then Bsu or Smu. Congratulations Oregon you get to play Ohio state or Tennessee

Bama might get in and will have the easiest path to the semi’s. That’s why if you’re gonna have the current format you really need to adjust the seeding after week 1. Either that or actually do a normally format

Ya me too. Would have been a bad call but that's never stopped them lol
It would have been one of those “right calls in the wrong place” things. It’s an illegal block (can’t block back towards your own endzone except in defined circumstances), but it had zero impact on the play and wasn’t a blindside or dangerous block. Good decision to hold the flag, and MM won’t make a habit of it.

Look, I'm not overreacting like some, but if losing highly rated highly valued commits doesn't harsh your mellow in the least, then I question how much you truly understand recruiting. Shady's decommitment is alarming because it came out of nowhere, and with days to go until the ESP begins, it's not like we have a backup plan. Maybe we flip Merritt from Miami, but he's a different kind of safety than Shady. You do you, but I feel like we just lost a talented kid to a rival program that was not very good this year.
Hardly anyone else here is even talking about it.

We're actually good at the game of football again.

We no longer have to try and win the offseason. We're free from the Decembers of Dooley, Butch, and Pruitt 🙏

Enjoy it buddy!

I don't get these recruits decommiting right now.

All we've heard it's that we have to win. We have to have stability we have to have top notch nil,.....

Well? Wtf is it now? Smh.

I really don't want to overreact to to stuff like this... But jeez... We're doing all the things... And doing them well. Just sucks especially 3 days before signing day.😑

You can block toward your own end zone, there's no rule against that is there? I'm not aware of one. Do you have a rule number?

You just can't block someone who doesn't see it coming. That guy saw it coming but it was from an an angle that sometimes they don't see it coming.

Banks dipping is the only thing that makes sense

Then it sounds like something we didn’t do.
Throw enough money at him!

What’s your excuse gonna be when a couple more flip?

If Clemson beats SMU... The ACC champ falls out of the top 4.. big 12 winner likely moves up to that spot especially if it's az St.... And Clemson gets in at 12.. First team out is still USCe. Brutal for USCe... If they don't get in this week..I'm not sure there's a path barring minds being changed after the title games for some reason...

What we don't need is Oregon and/or Texas losing and then figuring out how far to drop them.. At that point we're on the road.
That's a great point you bring up.

The Big 12 championship is Arizona St vs Iowa St and both are ranked higher than Clemson in coaches and AP polls.

Clemson could beat SMU and still end as a 12 seed vs ND...Oregon...Tex...PSU LMAO.

And if not for Tulane losing the other day, they could be ranked ahead as well and Clemson would be the 6th highest rated conf champ. Man the ACC is bad 😅

The NCAA crack back rule (can’t remember the number) was recently broadened to make those blocks all but impossible. You now see the bird block downfield—arms out facing the offense’s endzone.

I'm pretty sure crack back is when a receiver/player in the back field comes from the side into a DL. Do you mean blindside or peel back?
