Uga got burned here

You hate to see it.

I wanted him, but I’m glad we didn’t overpay.

If guys follow the money in HS recruiting, the price will keep going up every year if they pan out. Somebody will always pay more and the player has mobility. A player can 100% follow that strategy—I’m glad they have the option—but it seldom benefits the school to pay top dollar.

UGA signed the #1 DL, #1 Edge, and #1 LB in a class that includes 7 top 50 players (after signing 3 DL in the top 100 players last year). I wish Terry were a dawg, but we’re going to be okay.

You could probably start with Bill C's work in this arena.

His research showed a nice multiplier for defensive recruits, which makes a lot of sense...you can really scheme an offense up to attack a variety of defenses and the talent can take a backseat...but defense tends to be more reactive. Raw talent excels on defense.

Iirc the effects were something like .95 for an offensive recruit and 1.08 for defensive. Something like that.
Got a start on it already actually. If I use my player evaluations as a base, I can find the average expected points added by player rating. So a freshman Sanders will be (on average) expected to be about as good as a low 4-star senior.

I'm torn. My hatred for Bama makes me want them out of the playoffs, but I also despise Dabo with a passion. And it seems as if one of Bama or Clemson is bound to make it. Why can't they just pick Miami or another Big 12 school for that last spot?
I think the Bammers are in even with a Clemson win which I think they will. SMU will be out.

Are you suggesting you didn't pay high dollar for the top players you got?

No. We did, and I understand that we offered big money for Terry, too. But Texas, who has not really been in his recruitment at all, came in late and very large.

Money is a part of it, and obviously an important part. But we learned with Bear Alexander that sometimes it’s better to lose a bidding war than to win one.

What is the consensus for tonight, who are we pulling for?

Tulane vs 24 Army

20 UNLV vs 10 Boise State
I don't think UNLV can get it done. They already lost to Boise at home and they play indoors, so I don't think they can win on the road in the freezing cold this time.

No idea on Tulane and Army. I probably lean Army because they're at home.

Lol
Nobody cares
Can’t believe you had time between barking at fans and sniffing ass to come to a Tennessee board and talk

How do you know you didn’t overpay for all the guys UGA landed?

Fair question. My understanding is that UGA set a cap and stuck with it. Maybe the guys that signed don’t pan out, but you make your plan and roll with it. The rumor (and that’s all it is) out of Austin is that Terry got well more than what UGA would offer, like QB money.

Texas is obviously a great program and recruits itself. They’ve got a lot to offer besides just money.

We’ll find out later if we should have offered more.
