Loved CR. And Panama. And Mexico (which is actually N America). Argentina. Peru. ( Both S Am I know...)Costa Rica would be dope. Safe. Beautiful. Progressive. Conserve their environment well. Good food and great people, most importantly.
The gem of Central America imo
We'd planned on that, but then found a part of Mexico that had all we wanted from CR, and more. "Climate of eternal spring" in the cloud forest, fairly close to beaches (~ 35-40 minutes). Cost of living is actually lower. Quicker/cheaper flights for family to visit. Every bit as beautiful. Better infrastructure (still a developing nation). MUCH cheaper to buys imported items. My wife is already looking at retirement there.
I had heard CR is seeing a rise in petty and non violent crimes. Where in Mexico is this paradise? We'd planned on that, but then found a part of Mexico that had all we wanted from CR, and more. It's actually safer when it comes to violent crime. I know that's hard to believe, but CR is suffering from pretty bad problems with home invasion robberies that the authorities don't care anything about stopping or investigating.
The state of Veracruz. It's absolutely gorgeous. Much of it, you'd think you are in CR, Panama, etc... But please don't tell anyone. We need it to remain a hidden gem.I had heard CR is seeing a rise in petty and non violent crimes. Where in Mexico is this paradise?
Looks just like Myrtle Beach. . .The state of Veracruz. It's absolutely gorgeous. Much of it, you'd think you are in CR, Panama, etc... But please don't tell anyone. We need it to remain a hidden gem.
We drove through a banana/coffee plantation and then hikes down to this last time we were there:

Tecolutla is beautiful and relaxing.

Chachalacas is absolutely empty during the week, and also has dunes adjacent to the beach for those that like moto-playing.
