Big ask on the road and at night with our tempo.
But I agree. Play just a hair tad slower, like at Vandy, protect well, and we can win.
Need to win all of the little areas. STs, TOs, disciplined, etc.
see, i don't think tempo has been as much of a thing this year. sure, we still go faster than most...but we're not going break neck like we did in 22..or it at least doens't feel like we have, consistently.
as for slowing it down, i'll take it a step further, because i agree with you about the Vandy game....and you could really trace it back to the 2nd half of the Miss St game....the play calling has changed....sure we still take some deep shots down the sideline....but we're doing more in the 8-15 yard area of late, which has allowed the WR's to get to a spot and make catches, it's getting the ball out of Nico's hands quicker, and makes Play action more of a problem for the defense. and when you see the safeties back, and the LB's up to stop the run, then the middle of the field has opened a little bit for us of late.
as always....the key is running the ball. i think we see more Nico carries. Sampson will get his and between Lewis (hopefully healthy) and Biship....there's a 4 headed monster of a run game.
long story short, i don't know that we have slowed it down for the sake of slowing it down....but we've been more capable of putting multi play drives together a little more lately...less 3 and outs, so it maybe it just seems like we've slowed it down, because we're actually running more plays in a given series.....?
anyway....what we've been doing since the 2nd half of MSU, had success early against UGA, and beat Vandy with was really what this team should look like. and if a deep shot presents itself, take it. but i don't think you can go in to any series with a "we have to hit one of these" mentality. do what we do, do what works....OSU's defense is no joke....so need to get cute. lean on that O line and run game. use the physicality of Bru, Thornton, and the TE's to move the chains.
and defensively....just be you, and don't do that sit back and react to everything like we did against UGA. i think we can stop the run, and if we can pressure their QB.....move him around, even if we don't get home, he has to feel pressure....honestly, i'm scared of OSU's WR's. i like our DB's and we have shown that we can shut down elite WR's against Bama, and at times, against UGA. what we have also shown, if we don't get pressure, a good QB can and will make plays against us down field. even in the Bama game, Milroe just flat missed a few guys that were running free...Beck didn't. and lagaway when he had time, hit some big throws too. so the QB needs to know we're there. ...outside of stopping the run, that's the key. get the QB looking around, moving of his spot....hit him when we can, but avoid dump drive saving penalties in the process.
this should be a good game. i think it's pretty evenly matched up in a lot of ways. i hate that it's at OSU, i do think that matters and barring us jumping all over them early, i don't buy the crowd turning on OSU thing. there's a national title on the line, you have a top 10 SEC team coming to your house.....if you can't get past the Michigan game and get up for that, then you do suck as a fan....lol.
i think OSU probably wins? but i think the spread is high at 7.5,, i see this as a 31-27 type game, for whoever wins. and this will definitely be a maxim game. so buckle up.....can't wait.
