Recruiting Football Talk VIII

The offense post-Hendon Hooker has not moved with the same pace, making it less effective. Say what you want about it, but the offense IS very effective when it’s moving quickly.

Nico will grasp the offense better and create more tempo with experience. CJH has to find dudes at WR, though. Hyatt and Tillman were dudes.

Not sure what to think of Halzle. I'm still not sure who calls the plays, him or Heup? If it's Heup, then it's silly to blame Halzle for the questionable play calling on offense.

I really think we need to replace Elarbee.

I'm good with the RB coach, but I think we need better than Pope to coach our WRs. They struggled mightily this season. At everything. Catching, route running, getting open. We need better.

Have no idea about the TE coach, but he needs to recruit his ass off.
Ellarbee can hit the road.

Well that’s because we lost Burns and Golesh :/

My final reflections:

1) Nobody in the country was beating OSU in Columbus tonight.

2) The homefield advantage is real, especially with a rowdy 100,000 seat stadium. It might be an insurmountable advantage in the playoff.

3) OSU’s top-3 talent is undeniable, and I doubt I'll see Tennessee ever match that. Winning games like this for Tennessee will take elite QB play and a bit of luck, honestly.

4) The talk about OSU’s Michigan loss feels overblown—it was a low-stakes noon game they apparently weren't up for. Honestly, I would rather they won that game, because it clearly served as motivation for them tonight.

5) Tennessee’s injuries were a killer down the stretch. Missing key players at LB, RB, and WR really showed tonight.

6) Nico Iamaleava needs to develop as a thrower and decision-maker, the WR and OL groups need help, and Heupel needs to evolve his scheme. Big offseason ahead.

Anyway - Go Vols! Enjoyed the season, and I was entertained overall, which is really all I ask after suffering through the 2010s.

Prove it.

Need more jermod McCoys. Hate it for him that he had a bad game. I can’t believe we didn’t get physical at the line with these guys. Knock off the timing. Commit pass interference. We gave them most everything they wanted and they had time to do it.

Hate that our heralded defensive line laid a dud against a beat up Osu oline, just like we did with uga. Talent gap.

Yeah…those moves he put on to get extra yards definitely looked like that…I bet you can run better

I gave him a little credit tonight, for him. Those 3 yard scrambles to the outside are more along the lines of what I’m talking about. Any decent running QBs take those up field for at least close to a first down.

Everyone called me dumb for saying home field advantage.

If you’re the home team, you’re winning round 1.

It’s a free 4leg parlay from here on out.

He was trying to look down the field for open receivers but of course they weren’t open.

lol….he’s fine running the ball. Will Howard couldn’t run better on the outside. It’s his awareness to keep his eyes downfield that needs improvement.

Ouch lol. Go look for a real WR coach while you’re at it.
And a new offensive coordinator. Halzle is either directly to blame (in part), or he's fetching coffee while Heupel runs the same four plays.

Either way, it is obvious everyone has the script on this system. Heupel needs someone with a fresh perspective..

The insane amount of **** riding early in the year for the offense discovering 12 personnel as if they discovered the forward pass... That's not cutting it.

We recruited 1 five star and 15 four stars and ended 10th. Ohio State recruited 2 five stars and 18 four stars and ended 5th. This years class was fine, but it’s stacking multiple classes in a row that matter. The difference between the top 10 each year is usually not a whole lot. But the UGA’s, Bama’s, OSU’s do it every year.
Portal can accelerate that now. Hopefully, we hit the portal hard. Need to take that next step sooner rather than later.

I respect him running tonight like he did but he’s not a good runner at all. It was a great rushing performance for him personally but Will Howard on the other side tonight is a much more capable runner. Nico cannot throw the football though. Stares down receivers. Not accurate. Doesn’t feel pressure well. What good is there to say about him.
Maybe because he’s a redshirt freshman???? Since you chose your avi and stuck with it. What’s good about you??

He’s really not. Tonight was by far his best rushing performance this year. Rushing stats for the entire year are awful.

I am never wasting my money and time going to neutral site games and away games under Heupel. We never play well on the road and our coaches suck on the road. Until things change I wont waste a dime going on the road for ut

Banks is a finalist or something for the Frank Broyles award. Not sure why. When his DL gets checked, he has no idea how to adjust. It's like he despises blitzing. That's unnatural for a DC.

Garner, I love the dude, but this is twice his DL has played poorly against patched up OLs. WTF is going on there? Why can't our guys beat backup OL?

Ekeler, I love his special teams for the most part, but his DEs should be playing better. Pearce is way too damn talented not to have gotten to the QB more.

Inge. This is his first year and he didn't inherit the greatest of talent, not to mention he lost Pili from his group. Still wait and see on him.

Willie Mo had a much-improved group this year, but they couldn't cover elite WRs tonight. I'll always have my doubts about him, but his group was pretty good for us this year.

Both sides of the ball, we need to consider bringing in more help for the coaches. Assistants like Chop have helped our recruiting. We need more of that.
