Recruiting Football Talk VIII

WR room will probably be gutted (it already is showing). OL room will probably need seven figures spent on it, AGAIN!

David Sanders will be the first high school starter that Elarbee has brought to campus in 4+ years.
Good. Let the growing pains start. Shoulda played last night. Thankful for John Campbell, but could it have been any worse?

Oregon has Phil Knight Money
Texas has the Big Oil Money from Donors
Ohio State is all about College football.Big Donors money
Notre Dame has TOUCHDOWN Jesus. Money.😳
To be good at every sport takes money from football. I’m okay with that, I like baseball more anyways. But there aren’t many teams that are “everything schools” that are national championship good at football anymore.

Texas will likely be one to change that soon, but as of now they haven’t.

The longer we go with Heupel, the more I’m convinced he is our Mark Richt. That’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Loyal to his coaches to a fault. Good not great coach. Good not elite recruiter. Will always field a good team and be good, but will not hit that elite tier. Compared to where we’ve been, a lot of people will be ok with that.
I’ve said for the last 2 years that Heupel is Richt 2.0. There’s nothing wrong with that and many on here would take that and call it a day. But those so passionate about the post season and winning a NC. That ain’t gonna be Heupel. Everyone wants to point to 2022 offense and claim that as the norm. Unfortunately that’s been the outlier.

Wiki lists our Endowment - which I know isnt Spyre as barely over 1 Billion.

anOSU is 7 times that.
I saw a list of top ten most valuable athletic departments... OSU and Texas were 1 & 2. Oregon was 3rd. We were 9th.

So is if different, yes. Is it so much so that we are relegated to mediocrity? No, I don't think so. Is this the ceiling if we don't change anything? Maybe...I mean the matchup we got in round 1...I think we can all agree now, not ideal lol. In a different format where we're playing an SMU or Indiana in round one at home, we probably advance... And get clobbered in round 2.

I do think it means we have to make some decisions as it relates to roster management we haven't been comfortable with up to this point.

A year ago you couldn't trust Florida's nil, culture was terrible... Now they're flipping 5*s from Texas. All is well.

$ talks, if the check clears... Damn everything else. And the type of guys you need are swimming in those waters.

I'm not saying we should or shouldn't do that. At some point when this revenue sharing and nil gets some guard rails, some of this will slow down a little.

Until then... You're not getting Jeremiah Smith type dudes unless you're willing to spend with the programs that are... Same thing with the portal.

Any way...I really don't think we're that far away. But we're not there. And we're not dynamic enough at wr, and we need a lot more David Sanders type guys in the o line...

Speed at lb and safety... Need that too.

And the coaches have really do a self scout and figure out what to do going forward... And part of that for heupel will be to determine if that means making some changes.

I'm not gonna call for heads. I'm still excited about the direction of this program, but can see how big the gap still is between us and programs line UGA and OSU etc.

Still, last night sucked bad. Need a little time to get this in the rear view...

Doug Mathews mentioned Brazzel as iffy during his show this morning. I'm not sure if he was talking injury-wise or portal-wise.
