People try to give him credit for Darnell Wright, too. Forgetting that he was a 5* before arriving on campus and was a slam dunk first rounder out of high school. If Elarbee was recruiting him. We’d have probably missed out on him.I don’t think we can credit Elarbee with Sanders…
He showed nothing that screamed elite. Doesn’t me he isn’t but Lewis looks better at this point.
Oh, he certainly may not be. But, it’s possible, so I think they’d be silly to not hit the portal for a RB if Sampson leavesHe showed nothing that screamed elite. Doesn’t me he isn’t but Lewis looks better at this point.
Bingo.Vols lost 42-17 to end 1997 season.
Were they just hoping then?
We’ve won more games over the last 3 seasons than we have any 3 seasons dating back to 1996-1998.
Things are going well. Just not over the hump yet. Baseball is different than football. If UGA doesn’t win the NC this year then CFB will have just its 3rd active HC with a NC.
As unfortunate as it is, money is driving this. I don't know if it's a lack of money or an unwillingness to spend it. Players are cashing in and who can blame them? In today's game you have to purchase your rosters. Are we willing to do that?I saw a list of top ten most valuable athletic departments... OSU and Texas were 1 & 2. Oregon was 3rd. We were 9th.
So is if different, yes. Is it so much so that we are relegated to mediocrity? No, I don't think so. Is this the ceiling if we don't change anything? Maybe...I mean the matchup we got in round 1...I think we can all agree now, not ideal lol. In a different format where we're playing an SMU or Indiana in round one at home, we probably advance... And get clobbered in round 2.
I do think it means we have to make some decisions as it relates to roster management we haven't been comfortable with up to this point.
A year ago you couldn't trust Florida's nil, culture was terrible... Now they're flipping 5*s from Texas. All is well.
$ talks, if the check clears... Damn everything else. And the type of guys you need are swimming in those waters.
I'm not saying we should or shouldn't do that. At some point when this revenue sharing and nil gets some guard rails, some of this will slow down a little.
Until then... You're not getting Jeremiah Smith type dudes unless you're willing to spend with the programs that are... Same thing with the portal.
Any way...I really don't think we're that far away. But we're not there. And we're not dynamic enough at wr, and we need a lot more David Sanders type guys in the o line...
Speed at lb and safety... Need that too.
And the coaches have really do a self scout and figure out what to do going forward... And part of that for heupel will be to determine if that means making some changes.
I'm not gonna call for heads. I'm still excited about the direction of this program, but can see how big the gap still is between us and programs line UGA and OSU etc.
Still, last night sucked bad. Need a little time to get this in the rear view...
And that reason is we didn’t go get a QB with 2 years eligibility that was capable to come in and compete for the job.It has to go fast to have a chance against superior talent. You can slow down if talent is even, but to beat more talented defenses it has to go fast. For some reason, we have not been able to go as fast for the past two years since HH left.
Be funny if it came out one day down the road that somehow the coaches/spyre/UT we’re taking a cut of the money instead of spending it on players. As unfortunate as it is, money is driving this. I don't know if it's a lack of money or an unwillingness to spend it. Players are cashing in and who can blame them? In today's game you have to purchase your rosters. Are we willing to do that?
Program loyalty seems to be as strong as the amount on the check. I'm not sure playing for the logo is much of a thing anymore.
When NC hired BB, I thought it was stupid but I'm rethinking it. It may be a genious move. Head coaches now need to be more roster managers than ever before. He's going to set that program up as a professional team. His staff will mimick a professional organization. Let's face it, college is now professional, no amateur about it.
Did the same last night and it was just shocking to see how much the offense has changed. There were so many successful alignments, pre-snap disguises, etc. that we didn’t incorporate a single time this season. We’ve for some reason defaulted to 4 wide flex formations that allow defenses to play 3vs2 against our WRs with the safety help. That only works against less talented D-Lines which unfortunately was not the case with our toughest opponents. Was just watching some 2022 highlights and noticed we ran so much more motion and did load up one side with 3 receivers a lot more and it worked so well. Why are we not doing that anymore?!
