Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Dylan Sampson isn’t as good as we think. He just pads stats because good teams let us run as opposed to throwing the ball all over the yard because they know - especially on the road - that we aren’t good enough to consistently have the necessary 8+ play drives needed to score enough points to win games.

Just shows how ignorant some of you are. The LB coach you want fired just brought in a top 3 haul at the position cause he KNOWS we have issues. This team in 4 years has beat all my expectations from that terrible time. We need more players AND DEPTH to handle a long SEC grind.

We need more talent and if you want to fire coaches and start over, you deserve another Jeremy Pruitt and 15 more years of crap football. I’ll be outta here for good if that happens. Some of this fan base are either stupid or the biggest most immature puss and boots ever.
Well said sir

This offense has been figured out by p4 coaches and it’s easy to stop provided they have competent talent. Hence why every game was a sweat.

Leave the box light and eventually we’ll hold or false start or otherwise sabotage our own drive.

Vs our defense just throw underneath and use motion because our safeties and linebackers can’t keep up.

Hope everybody calms down in a couple of days. Great season by any reasonable expectation. That does not mean that every coach and every position group needs to be evaluated from top to bottom. Maybe changes will be made, maybe some people will move on. Probably will all shake itself out by end of January. My personal take is that WRs are not getting better, Offensive scheme needs to be diversified, and OL development needs a good hard look. On Defense I think the DC leaves a lot to be desired as an in-game adjuster. That doesn't always mean someone needs to be fired. It DOES mean that there needs to be evidence of taking steps to improve and correct areas of weakness. I'm curious to see what Matthews and Staley can do. Would like to see another portal guy to go with them unless Brazell makes a big jump this Spring. I think next year will determine if the current OL coach can develop talent or if changes need to be made. It's hard to evaluate quality of LB play because a lot of times the scheme handcuffs them.
These conversations are not unique to UT or anymore urgent or pressing than at most other schools. Believe me, the conversations inside the buildings at Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss and LSU are a lot tougher than the ones in Knoxville. Keep y'alls heads screwed on right, enjoy Basketball and Baseball and get ready to do it all over again next August.

JMO ,but I dont see where the NIL is doing anything for Tn. Before NIL Tn was recruiting between 10-15 and as it stands now we are still recruiting between 10-12. So I dont see any benefit from Spyre. If its so good then where are the recruits? Getting 1 5* a year is not going to cut it. Transfer portal is the same, most schools are going after very good players but Tn is going to smaller schools. Makes no sense.
Everyone is doing NIL, that's why we've maintained that position. If we weren't doing NIL we would have fallen in the pecking order significantly.

Get some burners at wr and we will be fine
Nobody was scared of this years WRs

I kind of feel like I'm not gonna see another football championship in my lifetime. SEC or National. Call me soft as hell if you want for saying that, but I've survived some **** in my life. I'm not so sure I have many years left. I felt fortunate to see us win the CWS. I would love to see us win March Madness. But one more Football National title is at the top of my wish list. I just don't see how it's going to happen at this pace when the gulf between us and the truly elite programs seems so wide.
@Weezer
ya know I luv ya ..........but where UT was just 4 years ago, it's amazing to even be in the playoffs.
Got a ways to go, but it hopefully continues to get better.

The gap isn't as wide as we think today. Yesterday was BAD, but it's not bad as we think.

Yeah, I've never had a take this bad.

Just turn VN off for a week.

It's humorous to see a poster that is throwing a tantrum like a two-year old say that other posters are soft as hell. We got destroyed in a football game. Life goes on. You need to grow up.

Who’s the poster throwing a tantrum?
It sure as hell ain’t me!

I expected to get beat, wasn’t surprised at all so why would I throw a tantrum?

Edit: I realize who quoted me so I’m not at all surprised you were wrong about a tantrum.

Nico doesn’t have time to go through his progressions. Our OL is so bad. He only has time to throw to his first read, hold on to the the ball and get sacked, or tuck and run.

Definitely has to learn how to throw the ball away, tends to hold on the ball too long sometimes.
When he does have time, he throws with no anticipation and cannot read a blitz. I am hopeful that he can learn to do both.

Bruh you've seen 20 years of absolute shiz.

We're right back in the thick of things. This team, in no ways, was THE peak team anyone was banking on lol.

We're just getting started.

Hell, Harbaugh and Dabo were short for many more years than this. We have vet Nico, Gmac, FB just in the next handful of years lol.

Don't play like this season was the season. If anything, we made it against all the odds and in a rebuild year. That's absolutely wild. Heup deserves sooo much freakin credit for taking a Fr QB, out of the SEC, and into the playoffs.

Our peak years are just now coming up ahead.

I don’t think it’s been figured out, just looks nothing like it did in ‘22. If we can just get back to that through both staff And roster changes, we’ll be alright.

It’s true. It’s why he never got serious consideration for major awards despite his stats. It’s why he’s may come back this year. It’s why he basically had one long run all year.

He was a work horse but I said what I said. Teams routinely put just 3 or 4 guys on the line and dropped everyone in coverage.

If you take our offensive numbers over the past two years vs p4 teams, it isn’t impressive at all.

Our stats are padded because we can stil hang 60 vs FCS schools.

Lol.
His vision improved a ton in the off season. His power and ability to break tackles is also really good.

You can stand by what you said, but it still makes you look stupid.

Bama also has a new coach so who is to say why they are leaving? I thought Tn had one of the best NILs out there and that would make our NIL better than Bamas right?
I get the take care of players that excels but are they picking the right players to take care of? I hope its not on our OL because Mays is the only one worth taking care of.
Mays is a senior now. We took care of Omari, Pearce, Josephs, and others on DL and paid Campbell, Spraggins, and Heard to come.

Who said UT doesn’t have a good NIL? It takes a whole bunch of money just to be good at recruiting and in the portal.

Money alone doesn’t just fix it. Bama has had a bunch of national titles and money.

Honestly, I keep thinking of this Georgia Auburn game from a few years back when I reflect on our game yesterday. Auburn didn't blow out to a huge lead, but they just dominated the game after giving up an opening touchdown. Final stats look oddly familiar. Georgia beat Auburn on a neutral site several weeks later. Some days things just don't go your way. In the end, we shouldn't read too much into last night's result - both for the Vols and for Ohio State.

Is it they are coaching them up or is it because of the schedule? I like seeing 30-9 but look at the losses and who they are to, teams with better talent and better coaches except for Pitt and USCe and Fla at the time.
Holy moly…is this a legit question being in the SEC? Talk about a bad take.
