Recruiting Football Talk VIII

For the 26 class. I think we have to get
Faizon Brandon
Tristan Keys
Dunham
Hiter

All 4 should end up as 5*.
Development is the issue, if we could develop guys at certain positions (OL, WR, etc.) I wouldn’t give a **** about the portal.

No reason Clemson should have two freshman WRs each having 600+ receiving yards while our older guys struggle

Banks will not be fired. Statistically, he had one of the best defenses in the league. You fire him and you won't be able to hire a replacement.
Kirby fired Chaney after going to a national championship and having the best rushing attack with I’m pretty sure the best season ever for two RBs on the same team. And they upgraded and won two natty’s. It’s possible for Heupel to do the same

I a

I agree
the stats show a great defense and it was great all year except against elite teams like OSU and UGA which sucks but it also shows we are lacking in talent and speed
We’re close

I wish he was more aggressive but at the same time you can’t be with slow safeties and LBS

Some teams it’s about matchups and strengths and weaknesses. UGA got lit up by Bama and GT. Ole Miss also put up 28 on them. Don’t think anybody would say Kirby and Schumann should be fired.

These are HS kids.
In a perfect world, we also get another Elite tackle and hideout, but I'll settle for these 4.
If Dunham doesn't develop, then some other Elite edge rusher.

Well, this pisses me off. #16 is a joke, paying 1/2 of what the top 4 teams are is a joke, getting outspent by Virginia and Indiana is an absolute joke.

I thought we were trying to run with the big dogs, but we sure ain’t ponying up like the big dogs.

With all the money we’ve saved on hiring offensive staff, thought we would’ve had a lot more to throw around to players.
The AD has more money than Jed Clampett. They need to come off some of it they plan on running with the Super Late Models

Question for you folks that live in the Knoxville area. A few days ago a few mentioned a street or neighborhood with some incredible Christmas lights. We will be traveling through Knoxville on our way to Bristol soon and thought we may check them out if near the interstate.

Obviously Speedway in Lights.

For me Shadracks Lights at Appalachian Fair Grounds are better. You can take Old Gray Station from Johnson City to Gray, and some of the residents along way have Gridwolded their yards.

City of Johnson City, and Brightridge do the Christmas Trees by Campus. Its all over downtown now, Founders and over by Trek Bike Shop.

Georgia in 23... Second half of Bama in 23.
South Carolina in 22
Bama in 22
Florida in 22.
He struggles against good offenses.
He’s improved every year. USC in 22 doesn’t count for me. Of course teams struggle against Bama- lol. The bottom line is we should have scored more than 14 against Arkansas. His defense won us games this year. If we get back to a semi-Heupel offense, we win a bunch of games. The consensus around here in 2021 was if Heupel could have just an average defense, we would not be stoppable. We had a top 10 one this year.

You said “began recruiting at an elite level.”

His class rankings are no different than what Heupel is doing. If you’re saying he took those classes and developed them into NFL picks, then yes. He developed them. But he wasn’t really recruiting at a higher level.
No no NV, he harkened back to when that nutjob climbed into a kid's treehouse and camped out all night until they saw him

'recruiting at a higher level'

Most everybody does. That’s why they’re good offenses 🤷🏻‍♂️

The offense won those games tho, it's not like he got big stops.
Florida this year is another. The offense won that one too.

I'm not arguing at all about that, we get a home playoff game if the offense is more consistent all year. But Banks isn't completely free of blame, he's not half as good as people think he is.

Just caught up after the weekend. We had nothing but pleasant conversations with Ohio state fans. Invited us to their tailgates and just shot sh!t like football fans. I can really appreciate their hatred for Michigan (as far as being a rival). Grove city where we stayed was super nice. So much orange. Ohio state just looked so much bigger and faster up close.
Thing I noticed is. There’s no fire on the sideline when we went down. It sucked but we need changes in coaching that is evident. Heupel needs to look at his offense. If you’re not going to go fast have creativity. There’s no RB screens to slow the DLine. No slants with crossers behind it. No pop pass out of 12 personnel, if we even ran 12? It was embarrassing and we deserved the SEC chants and the O-H cants in our face.

The offense scored zero in the first half 3 straight games? They won those. I can’t discuss it anymore with you then.

UF had 2 turnovers, and if I recall we turned Mertz over inside the 5 after our own turnover. Also did it at OU with Arnold. Our defense saved us in a bunch of first halves.

The #7 scoring defense in the country.
Against some of the worst ooc competition, and the bottom dwellers of the sec. Look at how bad our defense played against teams with a pulse like uga and osu. Arky, florida, and vandy had times where they were moving it at will against us too. No in game adjustments either.

But I don’t believe he’s going to be fired because of the results. He’s improved it every year, which is what you are supposed to do. Offense needs help.
