Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Next year is a come to Jesus moment for Heupel’s regime. Coach Heupel HAS to have another offensive mind join the staff, come in and change some things. Preferably someone who is a Qb coach too.

Either he can choke to be a “ stubborn OC”married to his system no matter what, or he can become an elite head coach who always adjusting and ready to do what’s best to fulfill his job as head coach.
Yep, Day bit the bullet last offseason and now it’s Heup’s turn. He need some fresh ideas, three weeks of prep and not one new play was ran. No creativity, not one play that looks like the defense has a beat on it then boom we run something they never seen. That’s mind blowing tbh.

Yep. Undeniably the best stretch of Tennessee football in 20+ years, and some choose misery.

Until we are flattened on the field repeatedly and rendered utterly uncompetitive, I’m choosing joy.
what's not happening in portal, or is, but the strategy behind is infuriating. Same for our recruiting success, or lack thereof at offensive line, WR, and RB. Really every position minus TE, lol.

It is frustrating. But aint a damn thang we can do except give $.

Biggest thing I see here is on the R side Carnell Tate also had McCoy smoked off the line - just ran right by him - and Howard could’ve went there for a TD as well. Our dudes just couldn’t cover their dudes.

The cold definitely affected the team too. They didn’t look this slow all season. Even just turning their hips they looked like they were in slow motion.

Yes. It's ALL about speed on defense. Wish CJH would do some more of what UT did in the 90s. Move some underused RBS (i.e Seldon) to LB. Move some bigger safeties (i.e. Thomas) to LB. Maybe some faster CBs not playing could get a shot at safety?
Yeah I remember Chavis moving Jason Allen and Jonathan Hefney to safety and they shut down the backend with their speed.

Yeah there’s a pretty damning article floating around that has quoted from players/teams we’ve played and had success against us about how they knew exactly what we were doing based on what looks they gave us. One osu player said as soon as we went to 12 personnel we were cooked.

Even Jacob Warren pointed to how so many teams are now running a variation of this offense and it’s become predictable.

I'm thinking academic requirements will be the next to go. Keeping school affiliation but not actually going to school. JMO
Probably true. I heard last week that private equity groups are wanting to invest in college sports franchises like they do in professional sports. We already are letting guys play 6-8 years. It’s not college sports anymore. It’s just leveraging tradition and fan passion to create another pro sports league. Hard to fault 17-24 year olds for getting what they can get. Plus a lot of them come from poor families. The agents and handlers are leaches and are masters of taking advantage of them also. I don’t know the answer but it just seems unsustainable and have to think some fans will start checking out but the passion around my Vols runs deep.

We should have moved J Matthews to safety instead of letting him go.

Then we could be seriously screwed next year. If we need to cut players, it should be the guys who are never going to contribute, not ones who could contribute.
This was from before our lawsuit against the NCAA, part of the “cornbread settlement“
I can’t remember the exact number but 2-3/year for 3 years I think. So, CJH is dealing with a short hand. We need 10 pounds of talent but we’ve been given a 5 pound bag.
He’s done an amazing job in 4 short years and once we can past these penalties, we should really be rolling. GBO

Wasted 15 minutes of my life watching Ohios Taint clowns yap to find out what he actually said:

1. The only thing he references that they KNEW what the play was gonna be was the speed option play on 3rd down where Nico pitched the ball. They apparently noticed a tendency that if we see a certain look on defense on 3rd down and a particular distance that we like to call that play. OK. It happens. It means that we probably did that 2 or 3 times already this season on 3rd and short/medium and they saw it coming. Oh well. It happens. People forget that we lost the SEC MVP Sampson at RB after only 2 carries for 6 yards. No way in Hell we win this game vs a more talented team without him.

2. Between carries and sacks, Nico got tackled WITH the ball 20 times in this game. Cracked not 1 but 2 helmets. Still impressed anyone who was watching. OSU players and national media guys have all said this repeatedly. Dude is tough as a 10cent steak. We are lucky to have him.

3. That was by FAR the most talented defense we faced all year. Much moreso even that UGA. All American safeties. 2 of them of that caliber. Their defense has more NFL players than ours does...and we had a top 6 defense nationally in every stat that matters while playing in the SEC.

We played a team with 10 more 5* players, 20+ more 4* players, THE best WR corps in college football and a top 5 defense in THEIR house without our best offensive player and the leading rusher in the SEC. Of course we lost this game without Sampson. It was an uphill battle even with him. I am proud of our team, our season, know how lucky we are to have this staff and be nationally relevant 4 years after being left for dead as a program by the NCAA and everyone else. Merry Christmas and GO VOLS
I appreciate you watching that through. I didn’t have the heart to get through it.

There was one team that said they knew what we were doing by how we lined up.

We ran same 5 plays all season (being dramatic), but was def same base looks. So that's not a surprise. Let's be honest here. Georgia was ready for us, had come off a big loss, and was at home. We were going to have to play out of our minds to win.

We actually played very well 1st half, then our pants got pulled down, and ears boxed.

Arkansas was inexcusable.

OSU we got outclassed in every phase.

We will never get ahead of A&M - they have untold gobs of money. Anyone who can pay a coach $80m to go away is unstoppable.

I think this next era of SEC football will be dominated by the Texas schools.

But I think we should be even with the next tier - Georgia, Florida, Alabama, etc.
👆🏻
When the AD says we need $80,000,000 to get rid of coach and your response is cash or check👀
You are playing in the big leagues 😳

Wth reports that the Tulane QB that transferred to Duke is getting a NIL deal 2years/$8 million dollars. 😳😳😳
Chris Low debunked that yesterday on 3HL. Said he was told it is half of the reported amount. He would have to see the contract to believe it. Agents are putting out a lot of false info to drive up demand/price.
