Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I really hope the basketVOLs take care of business tomorrow. 14-0 will tie the best start ever in program history and losing to undefeated Florida on the road as the first loss will be a bit easier of a pill to swallow.

Really gonna be a year where we need to win at TBA though. SEC basketball is at a different level this season. (worst record is 10-3 )
I'll be in attendance.

We also faced that defense in some games we won. We beat NC State 51-10, for example.
NC State was new to us. Some critical guys on AR came from our squad. I think we have some tells on our offense personally. Osu was queuing us up too. Another potential byproduct of NIL transfers. I believe it is what caused the KY UGA game to be so close. KY defense was literally calling out their plays. Ky had that 4 year LB starter transfer from UGA to KY.

Returning:
Brazzell
Matthews
Staley
Boo

Incoming:
Jefferson (transfer)
Smith Jr.
Jackson

Not a bad group, bit inexperienced but speed and talent top to bottom. Adding Benson or Branch for some more experience would be big though.

Dodson is just as good as the other 2 freshmen also IMO. He has "short area quickness" like Squirrel...elite...in a slightly bigger package. If he does everything right concerning preparation, effort, discipline etc he can be special in the Slot from what I have seen.

CJH loves the phrase " How you do anything is how you do everything." It takes maturity, discipline and a lot of hard work to be a good player in the SEC. Talent alone will not do it. Even Hyatt didnt get it all figured out and started to shine as a Junior right? His freshman and sophomore seasons were not productive despite having world class speed and quickness. Leacock was ranked like 80th in the 23 class and never contributed at all despite being 6ft4in prototype outside WR with good speed...i think its not football that keeps these really talented kids from great. Its all the other things they do, or don't do, in the 95%of the time they are not on the field.

I feel like our offense will thrive more with the RB build types at WR.

Hyatt 6'0" 180lbs
Velus 6'0" 200lbs
Payton 6'1" 180lbs

Good to have 1 or 2 6'3" big bodies that can high point, but if that's making up 3 of the 4 starters it's tough.

Boo is 5'11" 195lbs
Staley 6'0" 190lbs
Matthews 6'1" 200lbs

Jefferson 6'0" 200lbs

Smith Jr. is a big body 6'3" 200lbs
Jackson a bit of both 6'2" 200lbs
And you return Brazzell as a big body 6'5" 200lbs

I like this WR room, on paper a bit more than what we replace. Love Squirrel but 5'10" 165lbs as an every down starter is a hard ask in the SEC imo. We never really got to use him on the outside much and take advantage of his speed either.

Yall sleepin on ole Joe-Kim .

In fairness, at best Dodson will back up Staley in the slot this year. We may even bring in a portal WR to share time in the slot, if we do then Dodson probably redshirts this year and never sees the field. He definitely has potential though. Its so hard with WRs to predict outcomes...SO many are busts. Thats why they are only picked in the first 2 rounds if they are unstoppable in college IMO.

That's is actually only one of about 10 jokes that make me laugh out loud when I hear it. Every time.
Something I giggle at every time, is when I'm in a single bathroom with the door locked and if someone knocks, I say "come in".

If I'm needing to go and the bathroom is locked, I like to shake the door handle violently and then walk away, especially if there's a line.

*Church is the funniest.

Yeah, don't know how I forgot him

Dodson - 6'0" 185lbs, high 3 star and top 100 WR nationally. From his tape you can see he's got speed and can make tough catches, he'll be a guy that probably flashes in year 2 or 3 though. Like you said not sure he'll move ahead of Staley and if we bring in a portal slot guy he'll likely be a ST player or RS candidate this upcoming season.

Good news though he appears to have done some return work in HS.

There will be and athlete that sues the NCAA, that they should be eligible as long as they are enrolled in school whether that is 5 years or 10. Because they will claim the NCAA is preventing them from making an income, and will win the lawsuit. It's coming.
I'm sure there is a D3 school in BFE Maine that needs me for one year.
