Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Mayo wasn't given a real chance. Pats suck as an organization, so he's probably better off. I doubt anyone will do well there for a while. And I'll be laughing. Pats fans will be the ones wailing.
They have an absolute ton of room under the salary cap (around $130 million if I remember correctly). They can completely change the team with that kind of money.

Played more conservative to not create bad TO’s and not rely as much on QB. His O is tempo and wide open. Nico would’ve got killed. He did what it took to win as many games as possible
I don't think he's that perfect. I think he's an amazing coach and we're lucky to have him, but I don't think he won as many games as possible.

I think he did adjust his O, but not perfectly like you're saying. He could have won more games (definitely arky, possibly uga but that's a stretch) if he had adjusted better. The talent wasn't amazing, but our talent was better than the offensive results. I think he relied TOO heavily on his defense and was content to punt the ball too much.

We had brought in first Campbell, then this year Heard. They were both injured. I’m not sure either was ever 100%. The biggest difference this year vs ‘22 imo was not having Mincey (who was dedicated and effective that year) and Crawford on one side and most of all Darnell Wright on the other. I think Umarov might have played well some at G if he hadn’t been lost for the year in the first game.

Let’s build an OL, bring in some WRs, and make a run to get to the playoffs a second year in a row.
I have high hopes for Heard. I think our OL has performed below their talent and ability level.

In all seriousness that is an acting performance I never would have thought Jerry had in him, even though it’s probably something he really believes.

I do note that there are probably more than a few Cowboys fans out there who disagree with his nepotism policies in running the team.

Quite a few of us Cowboy fans have been hoping that he'd just sell the team and walk away.

Nepotism is very easy to hate from afar but also very easy to understand up close.

It’s a cringe every time he does a PC, but anyone who’s ever witnessed him talking unscripted to individuals or a group of people can see how he built his empire.

Interesting, we actually punted 2 less times this year than last season.

BUT you're right, 2022 we punted 38 times... it was 55 last year and 53 this year, so obviously something changed in philosophy because that's a big jump.

@Freak instagram's reels won't load like they used to. Do I need to do something new to get them to play here now?

I actually think our O line will be pretty good this upcoming year. I also think Sanders plays as a freshman and holds his own. Kid is an elite talent.

Ahh yes the team that is 7th in wins in the AFC, 11th in the entire league, since 1999 is “consistently bad”
I have Titans fatigue and walked away after the Levis draft.

They have had - what has felt like - a steep slide in recent years. I’ve been annoyed by personnel moves, poor execution on the field, and a general malaise around the organization.

Saw your stat above and decided to shorten that window to the past 10 yrs.

Sure enough, Titans are sub .500 in that stretch. But then I saw that only 15 teams across the NFL are above .500 in that stretch, and only the top four teams are above .600 winning pct. That’s wild. Small handful of teams finding real, sustained success in the league.

Since 2020, Titans are 20th in the league in win pct, but you look at the teams below them (incl Wash, Houston, ATL, Denver, Ariz, etc) and you see teams that are trending much better than the Titans. Just hard to invest time and resources into a franchise that is trending toward mediocrity.

In 2023, we didn't have HH, and Hyatt getting behind the defenses. We had Milton with some struggles. Lost Bru during the season. Lost some offensive mojo, but still ran tempo quite a bit. In 2024, we had a TF QB finding his footing. OL pass pro problems. WRs dropping passes when Nico wasn't overthrowing. Lost offensive mojo and leaned on the run and defense. The decrease in punts is likely due to fewer possessons b/c we went from tempo to clock-eating on offense.

That's going back a longgggg way for a statistic haha.
I know ive been pretty vocal about disdain for Titans organization, and admittedly I dont follow it closely for the above reasons.

Titans are fortunate to be in an area with a ravenous sports hunger. Area that is growing, and really have the market.

Decisions are being made for money. Not to win. I dont know any other team that would have as glaring a need at QB, and take Mayo. Its ming boggling.
