Recruiting Football Talk VIII

They're making a wild new prop for powerboats.

They are crazy expensive too. Give me the volvo outdrive with the basic double prop. Makes way more sense from cost standpoint.

In 2023, we didn't have HH, and Hyatt getting behind the defenses. We had Milton with some struggles. Lost Bru during the season. Lost some offensive mojo, but still ran tempo quite a bit. In 2024, we had a TF QB finding his footing. OL pass pro problems. WRs dropping passes when Nico wasn't overthrowing. Lost offensive mojo and leaned on the run and defense. The decrease in punts is likely due to fewer possessons b/c we went from tempo to clock-eating on offense.

We ran 69 offensive plays a game in 2023 and 74 offensive plays in 2024.

When comparing to 2022 the offense wasn't at the same level, but 2024 the offense despite the "eye test" most folks use was better in almost every way category from 2023.

2022 = perfect storm on offense an elite QB with experience in the system and a talented WR group with OL that had NFL guys as well.

So hoping the WR group is more talented and we see OL step up this season, then we should be closer to 2022 again.

First bold, yeah it’s been a rapid decline, but the peak was the AFC title game as well

Second, I did 1999 since that’s when they moved to Nashville (since Jack talks nonstop about Houston)

Third, so hard to win in the NFL and this year was gross all around

Last bold, as you highlighted above, very very few franchises are above mediocrity

Regardless, I don’t disagree with how you feel. But the initial point of my post was to show Jack that the titans don’t constantly lose, contrary to his wishes
I'm sure you're aware of this, but since so many don't follow NFL just to clarify.

1997 they moved to TN as the Tennessee Oilers that first season games were played in Memphis at Liberty Bowl Stadium
1998 they moved games to Vanderbilt Stadium
1999 was the first season they were rebranded to the Titans and played in what is now Nissan Stadium.

Heup 0
Freeze 5
DeBoer 3

Those are the changes I would make

Yeah Heup won 10 games and had us in the playoffs in reload season...hardly think he's on the hot seat. Would have to have at least a sub 8 win season for it to even be warm IMO.

Only 0s imo....

Kiffin
Kirby
Heupel
Sark

I don't even think Beamer is a 0 because soon as they fall on their face his personality will be big time implode.

I think Auburn is always a 5 honestly, with how quick they've been at firing to rehire. I'd also say Napier is a 4 more than a 3 because they've also been quick to cut ties.

Beamer is like Butch and Pruitt. So dislikeable that any screwup or failure will have him out quick.

Man the SEC is so stacked this year in basketball.

As it stands right now, the easiest game in January and potentially for the rest of the season is Georgia at home.

Georgia only has 2 losses and is just outside the top 25.

Stacked for sure, I still think a bit of fool's gold though.

Bottom 5 teams in SOS (worst to better)
Texas
Vanderbilt
LSU
Missouri
Georgia

And Vandy was the only one to open conference play with a win at LSU.

It'll shake out, gotta win at home so Georgia, Mississippi State and Kentucky. Then split the 4 road games and ya feel pretty good. February isn't much easier though

But we may have a better idea by then which teams are for real and which aren't.

So the Sean Sparks dude on Facebook is claiming that Mike Keith will be the new Voice of the Vols. Claims it will be announced after the Titans last game. Says he will only do football. 👀
Sparks is an idiot who was famously wrong about a million things last week. I think Sparks is trying to rebuild his cred and threw up a 50/50 here.

I could see Mike making the move because replacing Ward and being the voice of the Vols was his dream and maybe he's ready to go in a different direction now. Pretty sure his kids are all out of the house now, might even be in Knoxville. Calling Vols football could essentially be a retirement for him. Probably fewer day-to-day things.

Some reasons why he wouldn't is that he's from Nashville and the Titans job is a sweet gig. He's been THE voice of the Tennessee Titans and cemented his legacy there and within the NFL. He can do it as long as he wants and retire when he's ready.

I think Wilkerson will be the basketball caller to go along with baseball and he will be a good one.

Agree or disagree?

Bama isn’t firing KD after 2 seasons unless he leaves on his own. Put him at 1.
Pittman is definitely out unless they have a huge turnaround.
Freeze is a toss up, I’d go 3.
Napier is a 5 for me unless they have a turnaround similar to Pittman.
Smart agreed.
Stoops agreed.
BK is a 5. LSU fans are done with him. Natty or he’s gone.
Kiffin agreed.
Lenny is probably a 4 or 5, similar season and he’s out.
Drink is a 0 but a 5 on “most guy I’d like to punch”.
Venables agreed.
Beamer is a 1 but 4 on “most guy I’d like to punch”, barely below Drink.
Heupel is a 0 even though I understand why they said 1: our crazies.
Sark I actually think is a 1, but if they make it to the final I’d put them at 0.
Elko is a 3 unless they have a good season and beat big brother (ie Texas).
Lea is a 5 because if he has another successful season, he’s leaving for a better job. So not a hot seat, but he’s gone.

Oh, I agree. He gets his info from here and VQ and runs with it as if he's got some inside source. I have no doubt when it's someone besides Mike Keith he'll have some excuse that negotiations broke down at the last minute.

Yeah and I think there's a lot of basketball fans nationwide who, rightfully so, think January is going to really tell us who the Vols are. We didn't get a lot of big tests early (though Illinois on the road looks better by the day).

The question will remain if we peaked too early (*winces*... again?). We will lose some SEC games. Our quality of play will drop over the course of this SEC schedule. This season will come down to our ability to pick it back up in late Febuary and into March.

I think one thing that helps is we had a very light first half of the season. Got long breaks and a short early tournament.

Really overachieved this year too because of how great the DL played.

Games he won I didn't think they would preseason

at Kentucky
at Oklahoma
vs Texas A&M

All 3 of those weren't close either

vs Missouri (especially after Dorktitz said they were still in playoff hunt lol)
at Clemson

But those 5 games changed it from 4-8 to 9-3 real fast. I think Beamer is a complete and utter asshat but he has some good positional coaches and they recruit well, especially for it being South Carolina. Eventually though he'll have to replace someone and the wheels will fall off.

Also this isn't me trying to stir the pot or anything, but the makeup of South Carolina's staff is a big part of how well they recruit, especially on defense.

Mutual of Omahas Wild Kingdom debuted Sunday evenings on NBC. Watching this show after a day of watching NFL football in the 70s are some great childhood memories!

Stan Brock was the man. He lived about 4-5 houses down the road from where I grew up.

Edit: Also he founded Remote Area Medical which brought healthcare to the needy world wide. When I was learning to be a pilot, they housed a huge DC-9 (I think) at Downtown Island Home Airport. It was a beauty.

That's insane. Should be great prep for the tourney though. Crazy how we went from a football conference to a basketball conference.
