Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I have Titans fatigue and walked away after the Levis draft.

They have had - what has felt like - a steep slide in recent years. I’ve been annoyed by personnel moves, poor execution on the field, and a general malaise around the organization.

Saw your stat above and decided to shorten that window to the past 10 yrs.

Sure enough, Titans are sub .500 in that stretch. But then I saw that only 15 teams across the NFL are above .500 in that stretch, and only the top four teams are above .600 winning pct. That’s wild. Small handful of teams finding real, sustained success in the league.

Since 2020, Titans are 20th in the league in win pct, but you look at the teams below them (incl Wash, Houston, ATL, Denver, Ariz, etc) and you see teams that are trending much better than the Titans. Just hard to invest time and resources into a franchise that is trending toward mediocrity.
I mean, it's the NFL. If you don't have a generational QB (Chiefs, Bills, Ravens), an elite history and overall organization (Packers), or a great head coach (Steelers, now Lions), you just kinda have to wait your turn to be good and hope the stars align for a few seasons. No one stays on top for long without those things. The Titans have at least proven that they can be good every once in a while with the Vrabel/Tannehill/Henry run, so it's not like they're the Browns and just forever doomed to suck.

It's funny you mention the Falcons because they utterly choked away a playoff spot this season. My brother is a huge Falcons fan and has been miserable since 28-3. If Penix isn't the answer, and we'll find out once teams have an offseason to study him, they aren't in any better shape than the Titans moving forward.

Understandable...but often, a terrible idea.
My Granddad used to say, "Keep business business, and personal personal. Never mix the two. You can do business and make money with people you don't like personally. You can be ruined if you do business with people simply because they are family or people you like personally."

First bold, yeah it’s been a rapid decline, but the peak was the AFC title game as well

Second, I did 1999 since that’s when they moved to Nashville (since Jack talks nonstop about Houston)

Third, so hard to win in the NFL and this year was gross all around

Last bold, as you highlighted above, very very few franchises are above mediocrity

Regardless, I don’t disagree with how you feel. But the initial point of my post was to show Jack that the titans don’t constantly lose, contrary to his wishes

Kind of telling the schools our transfers are ending up at.

The players who aren’t good enough go down a level, and the players who were decent contributors take the biggest paycheck. It’s a good thing that our starter-quality guys aren’t leaving to compete against us for the SEC or in the playoffs.

Now if we can just start to identify which of these players are ACC quality vs. SEC quality prior to getting them on campus....
It’s tough
Look at the big recruiting schools
We all have the same issue

Sign 23-30 and hope 14-18 work out I guess

Some guys just stop progressing
I did lol

And some guys don’t blossom until their jr or sr year
But you can’t always wait that long

@InVOLuntary

@Freak instagram's reels won't load like they used to. Do I need to do something new to get them to play here now?
I think that's for sailboats to reduce drag when sailing.

Yeah, I just thought it was wild looking.
They're making a wild new prop for powerboats.

Georgia has no business being at #4 or even in the Top 10. From a shear talent standpoint it is 1. A&M, 2. UT then everyone else by a wide margin. It will be interesting to see what the new coach at A&M will be able to accomplish because they have the potential to be a juggernaut.

Interesting, we actually punted 2 less times this year than last season.

BUT you're right, 2022 we punted 38 times... it was 55 last year and 53 this year, so obviously something changed in philosophy because that's a big jump.
Losing a super senior QB, 1st round olineman and a couple of 2nd round recievers can do that to a team.
