Recruiting Football Talk VIII

It’s MLB’s model that keeps me from watching. All big markets dominate free agency and buy players with no salary cap.
In the last 10 years, the team playing in (several with multiple appearances) and often winning the World Series has included Houston, Arizona, Atlanta, Kansas City, Tampa Bay, Cleveland and St. Louis.

Those aren’t teams I think of as major market teams that dominate the free agency market.

WR Drops were a much bigger issue than overthrows.
And dropping balls is coach fault. Like saying missing layup is coach fault. The Nimrod drop against Ark Coached Up to run that exact Route against that Defense. Nimrod dropped balls as he looked to run before. That is never on Coach but player only.

While I agree with Bru being hurt it is Pope's job to get guys who can play and get them ready. He failed to do that in a big way. Either by recruiting the wrong caliber guys or pure lack of Development. I hope this coming year he changes my mind.
Well he has definitely moved the needle in recruiting. I have known kids who get to this level who are talented out of HS but have never been hit the way they are now . As a coach that is one thing you have no idea if a player will thrive or melt some melt and can't cut it. Not always coaches fault. In CHRIST Alone

The ones that are successful utilize the farm system and resign guys to contracts in advance (Braves with Acuna) before they hit the open market.

Anytime a free agent hits the market, they’re landing in LA or NY.

Happy Saturday

January 18, 2025: You have come to a place of understanding why you are where you are, and you have made great progress in leaving the past behind. Now it is time to look ahead and establish goals for the future. Bring more clarity to what you want or need to accomplish in the days ahead. Begin to outline and formulate your desires. Philippians 3:12-14 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
