Recruiting Football Talk VIII

What did we do against the elite competition? That’s the benchmark. This sounds like a Cignetti from IU comment after feasting off a weak schedule.

One will never be the best by fooling themself with stats built off inferior proxies.

Anyone defending banks has buried their head in the sand for the Georgia and OSU games.

Nothing was schemed to help your best players make big time plays. You can’t always out physical everyone.

Defenses know how to predict our 12-personnel
We threw out of it and ran out of it earlier in the season. Seems like lately we have only run out of it.

When facing a zone coverage scheme and a fast pass rush, it seems to me we could have exploited throwing to our tight ends out of it last night to gash the middle of the field. There was opportunity there for quicker developing seam throws

We should've tried it a little, but it's light work for a defense if you run it too often.

I really don't get, with our present and future QB's, why we don't have elite WR prospects lining up? Heck, I think TX got several elite WRs committed within a month of Manning committing. I'm concerned if we don't get some reliable targets to throw to, some of our QBs (present and future) may change their mind. We need another Hyatt!!!! 🤫

Well hopefully they take away the gtd top 4 spots ASAP.

That would help us...would've/should've been hosting in Knoxville.

Also don't lose to Arky.

But these road playoff games (especially on the coldest weekend of the entire year and at night) are always going to be very tough. Vs top 3 talent and that was just a tough ask.

Best thing moving forward, don't land in that position again. Just get us at least on a neutral site and we'll be fine.

We longer do the quick WR screens out of stack formations and that was a big part of the offense in '22. It forced DBs to take a bad step or two towards the LOS when we wanted to attack them downfield out of the same formation. They quit running those plays because we started getting offensive PI flags on the receiver that was blocking. They need to find something new in the short passing game that DBs have to respect.

It honestly feels like 90% of our routes are 10+ yards down the field, 2% between 1-10 yards, and 8% behind the LOS. They need to develop more of a passing game inside 10 yards to give the QB easier options under pressure and to make LBs and safties chase our slot receivers. That would also help us in the red zone. Short crossing routes would have been very successful this season with the way a lot of defenses played us.

I feel like we need to adjust the passing game a lot. Dead routes & WRs stopping before plays finish not even acting like they are expecting the ball is to easy for better talent to shut down.

Ya have 4 routes you need the D to feel like all 4 are threats otherwise zone eats our lunch and we see the one or two live routes double & even triple covered
