I think the loss of B Randolph hurt this D a lot more than people may realize. B Moore is not a good player at all. He's been responsible for a ton of big plays by taking bad angles, being out of position, missing tackles, & everything else. He just constantly looks confused.

As far as Gray goes, other than not having a safety who's worth a crap to help him, I thought he played well & was clearly a lot more physical than 23. The PI was a bad call imo & the late hit sucked but wasn't intentional. The long ball he got beat on was just a perfect throw. Looking forward to watching him & McNeil the next few years.

JMO but they also need to try and scrap the 100% no huddle. It is certainly hurting the defense. Justin Coleman told VQ that he played 102 snaps last game. That's a huge problem.

If they got some stops especially on 3rd and China, then they could decrease the number of snaps they play. IMO, the advantages of running the no huddle offense on offense outweigh the negatives.

There's a reason why Urban wanted to implement it into his offense AFTER beating Oklahoma in the NC game and Oregon runs it and Alabama at times and West Virginia. It forces D-coordinators into a game of cat n mouse where they are more likely to make mistakes.

Would you agree with me nonopw that he would potentially embarrass Oregons OL?

Nope....I think you are slighting the Oregon offense. USC couldn't even slow them down. And that Bama defense isn't what people think it is. I think they'll be upset Saturday. But against Oregon Jesse Williams would catch hell because they don't run straight ahead all game. And Bama is giving up the edges a lot this year.

SN: Dooley should've tried to sign Jeremy Hill with the case and all. After the details came out you could tell it was a BS case.

No need to scrap the no-huddle offense. We have one of the best offenses in the country and left a few TDs on the field in the Troy game. The defense just has to figure out how to get some stops on 3rd-and-long. Moving Sal to the box will be a good move IMO. He isn't making good calls being on the sidelines.

You and I are on the same page. Although, I'm not sure whether moving to the box will be more beneficial for Sal or not. The lights on but I'm not sure anyone's at home.

See, I don't mind that at all. Pig picked up 8-9 yards on first down there. The play absolutely worked. It was just execution... like so many other times this year.

The flipside to that is Bray throwing on 1st and 2nd down at the end of the half and then running on 3rd. That was poor IMO... but the Wild Pig that you are referring to was aight.

My problem is that it takes the ball out of your best players' hands (Bray, Patterson, Hunter). Yeah it got 9 yards, but it also turned the ball over. The normal offense was rolling on Sat. There just was no reason to get cute. None at all. Reminded me of UK last year when they drove down to the 10 and then wildcated with Neal. Turnover, ball game. Could have been just as costly this week if bray/hunter/patterson hadnt come through late.

Just getting someone to doodle the cover-2 on a white board would help Sal's defense tremendously.

Sal's just not a coordinator.

That's my point. Moving to the booth will not help him make better calls on the fly because I don't believe in his ability to coordinate or call defenses effectively.

Never questioned his other abilities.

Big boy Jesse Williams just lined up for Bama and punished the center all game.

Exactly. Let that man do what God built him to do, push people around.

He's not going to be effective against teams like Troy, but he is built for playing the SEC powerhouses that can run the ball between the tackles.

Sal is too emotional to be a sideline DC. I think moving him to the booth will detach him emotionally from the game a bit and allow him to call a smarter game.

I agree with you on Jeremy Hill.. But as I am slighting Oregons offense, I think you are giving USC's def too much credit and they were thrashed against Arizona the week before. I would be shocked if bama lost this week even though A&M is looking hot.

But I bet you had no problem with the Pig pass against SC though... :whistling:

I get your point of view. It's valid. It's just one of those hindsight things to me, so I don't worry about it.

I just want Hobby and Tee Martin on our coaching staff. Heck, move Sal to LBs.

Serious question, would Chaney have interest in a HC position elsewhere? Would we have a coach on staff (Hinshaw?) to promote to OC (Tee to WR coach - RC etc?)

Would love to see some changes like you mentioned above, bring in Hobby to even Co-DC with Sal (give Hobby a raise I think you mentioned 375K currently) and have Sal handle LB's also.

The potential is def there to tweak the staff even further and improve it greatly IMO.

Tennessee is not a place to test whether a position coach may have what it takes to call plays. Smaller schools take those chances. We can afford no such luxury. - Sal Sunseri

so gruden isn't coming here, cheek is out of his mind, hart is strapped by low cash and a dickhead boss, nichols committed to memphis, north is backing off of vols bc of issues with coaching, and we are 0-5 in SEC play for the 3rd year with no consensus of what Hart wants or how is going to approach things.....great to be a Vol.

It's dumb that people want us to slow down the offense. We put up a ton of points on some of the best defenses in the country and the offense is hitting on all cylinders right now..I really don't think it would benefit our defense much anyways.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

This is a quote from the Stl Post-Dispatch

“Early in the game we got a couple stops. … We couldn’t slow them down. We go into single high and they throw it over our corner’s head. Then we go two deep and they run the draw. We can’t tackle them. We really didn’t have an answer for anything.”

Mizzou's next opponent bottoms out : Stltoday

I would take the draw everyday and make them work their way down the field. I can't explain how much it bothers me that we still see single high with our current defensive issues.

Being in the booth will at least give him a better view of the field and he can at least hopefully make better calls. The paper bag scheme isn't working to well on defense.
