If you watched both games they are totally different. Lsu was running the ball effectivley and lsu WRs were making ridiculous catches on many occasions.

Mettnberger didn't have close to the game that manziel had

Manziel has unique skill, kind of Doug Flutie-like. He can be defended actually quite easily if you have the athletes, as Florida made adjustments at half-time, LSU made MAJOR adjustments after the first quarter. LSU went to the 3-4 which I don't remember ever seeing them do before, and 2 of the 3 DL would be LBs in Bama's system... Mingo and Montgomery. Then they brought either 1-2 Nickel backs in for the rush will the DL played the lanes for escape.

Bama was unwilling or unable to adjust, even though they only gave up 9 after the first quarter, they could never really stop them.

That is why I said last week on this board I thought Bama would have a hard time with Oregon if it came down to that. Manziel is good player and had a great smart game. The SEC teams will adjust to TAM's style and by next year it will be tough for them to get out to those early leads.

LSU had success in obvious passing situations. Why wasn't Rivera used versus Bama? They had Nico Johnson on him, he can't cover the pass well. Sunseri's kid can't cover a lick either. But we didn't attack him. Texas A&M threw short and bullied the Bama DBs at times.

I came into this year thinking Rivera was going to be a lethal weapon considering the other parts of the offense.

They've used him more like a monkey fist instead of anything lethal.

Sigh.

Rivera is having a great year. And is averaging I think 4 or 5 catches a game.

He is a good run blocker too

He will be a solid nfl TE

I think if cp had all those chances he would have 3tds

Maybe, but he's had chances and hasn't done well at it. CP is the better kick returner, but DY has been great at punt returning and has really been a solid player period. I like him returning punts and you know how skeptical I was about the DY pick up.

I agree. He's going to break Whitten's records for receiving yards, etc. One of many Vols having stellar seasons that are overshadowed by inexplicable losses.

How many times has cp even returned punts? 2?

He's ok yea but I feel you gotta give cp a chance

Yea its 2, I looked it up.

CP has had 2 for -8 yards.

DY has had 15 for 145 yards.

DY is averaging 10 yards per return and I think only Ace Sanders is averaging higher in the SEC with 13 yards per return.

I think DY has done pretty well.

The offensive play calling/execution does have an impact on our defense, imo. These next three stats were the difference in the game yesterday & likely others, imo:

Time of possession:
1st half UT 18:34 Mizzou 11:26
2nd half UT 11:14 Mizzou 18:46

Catches by TE
1st half Rivera 8 Downs 1 Bartholomew 1
2nd half Rivera 2

Rushing attempts for UT
1st half 23
2nd half 13

Coming into the Mizzou game UT ranked second to last in the league in TOP. We all saw yesterday in the 1st half how controlling the clock can benefit this team.

In the 1st half we had an even balance of rushes/passes (23/26) as well as Bray throwing a lot more intermediate/underneath passes to the TE's to keep moving the chains/clock instead of forcing throws down field.

In the 2nd half & OT things were far from balanced with rushes/passes (13/29) with our last rushing attempt coming with 5:32 left in the 4th qtr. Also, either Bray started forcing throws or Chaney totally quit trying to get the TE's involved like in the 1st half.

I know I've heard Bray say several times earlier in the season or before it that he needs to get better at hitting his check downs. Some of his decisions as well as some of the play calls on offense definitely effects our defense negatively at times. JMO

I won't dispute any of that, but he's had 5 games with 2 or fewer catches.

I just don't think they've used him very well.

That's a lame excuse for a defense. Yea its hard to have a stellar d with this offense but no excusing for giving up 40 points a game

I agree. He's the least of our concerns.

We will have a lot less talent on next year's roster, but we will be a better team and win more games. JMO.

Who all do you think we lose?

I think Bray, Hunter and Patterson for sure...I've heard enough chatter about Sentimores study habits to be concerned there...I also think James might decide to go to the draft...

We're really going to need to land Rumph and North now

I would really consider keeping Hinshaw for a year just for recruiting.

lol, Ill always remember that Vtech game. I think the hostesses kept CLK occupied the whole week before that game lol. UT seriously ran a screen at least 2 times a drive.

Clk had bigger things on his plate than that bowl game. You know him and the players were poppin bottles and F^%$#@N Bi^%es
