The offensive play calling/execution does have an impact on our defense, imo. These next three stats were the difference in the game yesterday & likely others, imo:
Time of possession:
1st half UT 18:34 Mizzou 11:26
2nd half UT 11:14 Mizzou 18:46
Catches by TE
1st half Rivera 8 Downs 1 Bartholomew 1
2nd half Rivera 2
Rushing attempts for UT
1st half 23
2nd half 13
Coming into the Mizzou game UT ranked second to last in the league in TOP. We all saw yesterday in the 1st half how controlling the clock can benefit this team.
In the 1st half we had an even balance of rushes/passes (23/26) as well as Bray throwing a lot more intermediate/underneath passes to the TE's to keep moving the chains/clock instead of forcing throws down field.
In the 2nd half & OT things were far from balanced with rushes/passes (13/29) with our last rushing attempt coming with 5:32 left in the 4th qtr. Also, either Bray started forcing throws or Chaney totally quit trying to get the TE's involved like in the 1st half.
I know I've heard Bray say several times earlier in the season or before it that he needs to get better at hitting his check downs. Some of his decisions as well as some of the play calls on offense definitely effects our defense negatively at times. JMO
